LOCATION : City of Saratoga Springs - City Hall
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: The following qualification(s) MUST be met and clearly stated on the City of Saratoga Springs employment application form: Either:
  • Graduation from a regionally accredited college or university with an Associate’s Degree in Computer Science, Computer Technology, Data Processing, Management Information Systems, Information Technology, or related field; OR
  • Graduation from high school or a high school equivalency diploma and ONE (1) YEAR of full-time paid experience involving Windows desktop applications

PLEASE NOTE:
  • Certificate of Network Administration can be substituted for ONE (1) YEAR of experience.
  • APLUS Certificate can be substituted for ONE (1) YEAR of experience.
DUTIES: This is a technical support position responsible for assisting in the daily operation of the technical services help desk in the City of Saratoga Springs Information Technology office. The employee is responsible for receiving and responding to telephone inquiries and requests related to operational problems of a computer system. The work is carried out in accordance with sound, modern, up-to-date methods, techniques, and procedures and involves covering a Help Desk, logging all calls received, personally resolving computer-related problems or referring to a more appropriate technical staff member(s) for resolution, performing key entry operations for input of data. The position will maintain the City website for all departments and train departments that have frequent posting needs in the operation of the content management system. The position will offer support to City Hall, the Police Department, and other City satellite office locations. The incumbent works under the general supervision of the Commissioner and Deputy Commissioner of Finance and the direct supervision of the Information Technology Manager. The Incumbent does related work as required.
TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES (Illustrative only)
  • Provides help desk support to users, through telephone, e-mail, or written requests; clarifies the nature of software or network problems or request for service; accesses established resources to determine solutions for personal computer application problems, refers complex or unusual problems to appropriate Information Technology staff; Maintains the City website and coordinates with departments to help them keep website information up to date.
  • Troubleshoots problems with software, hardware, and networks, within limits of expertise, as they occur;
  • Provides technical support and training to City department employees;
  • Provides orientation and training regarding the preparation and application of data for computer use;
  • Instructs City employees in the proper use and routine maintenance of peripheral equipment.
  • Operates peripheral equipment such as printers and video projectors;
  • Performs a wide variety of related clerical functions for the IT office and performs necessary clerical work of the office such as filing source material and data entry.
  • Assists in applying software updates to workstations.
A provisional appointment is pending the appropriate NYS Civil Service Exam announced and administered locally. The provisional appointee will be required to sign up to take the exam once it is announced, pay the exam fee (or fee waiver if applicable), pass the exam, and rank in the top three (3) grades to secure a permanent appointment*
