Duties

Summary

Due to the Pandemic, and individual states with different phases of reopening, the selectee’s report date to the official duty station/facility may be delayed until such time as employees are allowed to report to the workplace. The person selected may telework up to the maximum extent possible, up to and including full time, until it is safe to relocate.


Responsibilities

Incumbent serves as an entry level Site Support IT Specialist for the En Route & Oceanic 2nd Level Engineering Group.

The incumbent is responsible for providing technical assistance and guidance from the William J. Hughes Technical Center to En Route, Oceanic, and Decision Support field facilities. This technical assistance involves support to the resolution of site issues or problems, the installation of system modifications, and site restoration activities as required. This position is critical to ensuring the safe and efficient operation of the National Airspace System (NAS). As such, incumbent participates with a team of technical representatives in the development, enhancement, planning, conducting and documenting of processes for various Second Level Engineering Site Support activities.

These activities may include providing technical assistance to field personnel for the resolution of system issues including support to NAS monitoring and the Second Level Engineering Help Desk. The principal duties in this area are to ensure timely correction of the immediate problem(s) and to take steps necessary to avoid future occurrences. This requires that the incumbent coordinates activities with system engineers, system performance, and data systems personnel and ensures the logging of issues in the appropriate issue tracking data bases. The incumbent is also required to ensure issue information is communicated properly to all appropriate parties including headquarters, region, and upper management as required.

Other duties of the position include review and validation of Site Support documentation to provide technical feedback to ensure the accuracy and usability of all information. Conduct of Site Support testing and performance of Data Reduction and Analysis (DR&A) and other tasks in support of testing efforts including debugging and/or troubleshooting of issues during test activities. Participation in Site Support keysite testing activities to ensure system changes or updates satisfy all functional and operational requirements. Travel to sites as required for keysite testing and/or resolution of site issues.

He/She will perform a mixture of routine and varying assignments under the limited direction of a manager, project/program manager, team leader, or more experienced technical specialist. Applies experience and detailed technical knowledge applicable to his/her discipline to plan and accomplish assignments.

    To qualify for this position at the FV-G / FG/GS-5-9 level you must demonstrate in your application that you possess at least three years of progressively responsible general experience that demonstrates the ability to analyze problems to identify significant factors, gather pertinent data, recognize solutions, plan and organize work and convey information, with at least one year equivalent to the FG/GS-5 level.

    Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study in any field leading to a bachelor's degree, gained from an accredited college or university.
