Summary

The Program Support Assistant (Credentialing Specialist) is assigned to the Credentialing and Privileging Office, Chief of Staff VA Medical Center (VAMC), VA Integrated Service Network (VISN), White River Junction, VT.


Responsibilities

This position involves a multi-grade career ladder. The major duties listed below represent the full performance level of GS-7. At the GS-6 grade level, you will perform assignments of a more limited scope and with less independence. You will progressively acquire the background necessary to perform at the full performance level of GS-7. Promotion is at the discretion of the supervisor and is contingent upon satisfactory performance, availability of higher level work, and availability of funds.

The duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:

Serves as subject matter expert (SME) in the field of credentialing.
Uses significant judgement to inform leadership and appropriate administrative staff of program changes, new regulatory requirements, policies and procedures or issues and concerns pertaining to the credentialing program.
Receives and reviews correspondence and communications for the credentials function and determines which items require immediate attention and which are confidential in nature.
Receives and reviews VetPro reports detecting problem areas requiring further investigation.
Determines processes for coordination of incoming data and documents from a variety of sources.
Communicates and treats internal and external customers in a courteous, tactful, and respectful manner.
Ensures the acquisition of Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)-designated products (green).
Verifies funds availability prior to making purchases and complying with single purchase and monthly cardholder limits placed on card.
Reviews documents received and determines course of action based on information provided within documents.
Analyzes and manages issues related to documents that do not meet expected requirements, regulations or guidelines such as adverse actions against licensures, certifications, and NPDB) CQ reports.
Manages the work involving the tracking of data and documents in support of the credentialing operation.


Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:00am - 4:30pm.

    ENGLISH LANGUAGE PROFICIENCY: In accordance with 38 U.S.C. 7402(d), No person shall serve in direct patient care positions unless they are proficient in basic written and spoken English. You must be proficient in basic written and spoken English in order to meet the requirements of this position.

    Specialized EXPERIENCE GS-6: Applicants must have one (1) year or more of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level in Federal Service. Specialized experience is defined as experience that has provided the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of a Program Support Assistant. Examples of qualifying specialized experience include: having considerable working knowledge and understanding of accreditation standards and principles, provisions and practices of credentialing and regulatory procedures of the Joint Commission and Office of Inspector General/Combined Healthcare Inspection Program (OIG/CHIP); capable of communicating orally technical information to a diverse group of individuals with varying levels of understanding; understands the contacts required for verification of information in health care provider files; medical terminology to assure competence/appropriateness of credentials requested; ability to communicate in writing to prepare emails, letters, and reports; having skill in using software applications such as word processing and data bases and internet database applications for data entry, file maintenance and data retrieval; pays attention to detail is required to analyze applications, documents, files and other material pertaining to the credentialing program; and manages multiple projects and priorities and meet deadlines.

    Physical Requirements: The work is mostly sedentary. Occasionally, light physical effort may be required, such as that involved with walking, stair climbing, and carrying of light office items.

    Receiving Service Credit for Earning Annual (Vacation) Leave: Federal Employees earn annual leave at a rate (4, 6 or 8 hours per pay period) which is based on the number of years they have served as a Federal employee. VA may offer newly-appointed Federal employee's credit for their job-related non-federal experience or active duty uniformed military service. This credited service can be used in determining the rate at which they earn annual leave. Such credit must be requested and approved prior to the appointment date and is not guaranteed.
