Reports to: Executive Steward
Type of Position: Part-time
Status: Non-Exempt

The Steward is responsible for cleaning and maintaining all food and beverage areas, cookware, serviceware and equipment. The Steward demonstrates a team player attitude, supporting the stewarding and culinary teams in all areas of operations (restaurant, bar, room service, private dining and catered events), specifically cleanliness and sanitation, ensuring consistency with the company’s standards of excellence.

1. Ensure successful completion of the Train to Success program.
2. Maintain and participate in a team-oriented environment. Act as a resource and leader to peers, facilitating an environment of growth, development and retention. Proactively alert management of any behavioral concerns.
3. Follow guidelines as they pertain to cleanliness, sanitation, and work safety. Alert management to any work conditions/equipment concerns and report any accidents immediately in accordance to company standards.
4. Promote and maintain positive working relationships with The James Hotel managers, associates, and vendors.
5. Adhere to schedules and break periods. Ensure accurate time keeping by following standard operating procedures and alerting any discrepancies to management.
6. Assist the Executive Steward in the receiving and storage of all deliveries, including food and beverage items, paper goods, cleaning supplies, etc.
7. Ensure the cleanliness, organization, and santiation of all kitchen areas including the main kitchen, dry storage, refrigerators, freezers, and its equipment. Maintain proper storage of goods in the facilitation and completion.
8. Utilize the dishwasher and/or pot sink to clean and sanitize all dishware, glassware, flatware, as well as all kitchen smallwares including pots, pans etc. throughout the shift, inclusive of preparation and service.
9. Assist in the polishing of glassware as instructed.
10. Move supplies and equipment from storage to work areas by hand or using hand trucks.
11. Correctly place and store clean equipment, dishes, flatware, etc. in assigned storage areas. Restock assigned areas as necessary.
12. Sweep, mop, and/or vaccum the kitchen, dining areas, bars, entrances, lockerrooms, and other areas as directed.
13. Clean and maintain employee and customer restrooms.
14. Ensure all windows, doors and other surfaces are routinely cleaned.
15. Maintain exterior entrance of the main restaurant and Jimmy, inclusive of pressure washing and removing snow as needed.
16. Under the guidance of the Executive Steward, ensure grease traps are maintained.
17. Facilitate the disposal of all garbage and recylcing in accordance to standard operating procedures and ensure and all receptables are disinfected.
18. Understand the proper handling, usage, and storage of all cleaning supplies and chemicals.
19. Assist in cleaning and preparing various foods for cooking and/or serving, as directed.
20. Demonstrate a strong work ethic, focus, and a sense of urgency.
21. Reprioritize tasks throughout the day to ensure maximum productivity and efficiency.
22. In partnership with management, monitor waste and control the utilization of all product.
23. In collaboration with all culinary and fellow stewarding team members, adhere and contribute to the cleanliness and organization standards of all kitchen areas.
24. Comply with company standards of appearance, personal hygiene, and uniform guidelines.
25. Ensure compliance with all federal, state and local regulations as they pertain to health, safety and labor.
26. Follow all proper food handling procedures and New York State Health and Sanitation Guidelines.
