The State of New Hampshire, Department of Corrections has a full time vacancy for Mail Clerk II.

Summary:

To process and distribute incoming and outgoing mail for the Northern NH Correctional Facility.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:



Education: High school diploma or high school equivalency credential. Each additional year of approved formal education may be substituted for one year of required
work experience.



Experience : One year's experience as a postal clerk or other position requiring knowledge of postal regulations.




License/Certification: Must possess a valid driver's license if necessary for performing job accountabilities.





SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:


1. Working knowledge of the Domestic and International Mail Manual as stated on the supplemental job description.



2. All applicants must have sufficient strength and be free from disabilities that would prevent lifting of mail sacks and cartons and other related physical
tasks.







RECOMMENDED
WORK TRAITS:



Knowledge of United States postal regulations. Knowledge of simple record keeping. Ability to prepare statements and keep postage records. Ability to work extended periods standing and walking. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees of the various departments serviced by the central mail room. Must be willing to maintain appearance appropriate to assigned duties and responsibilities as determined by agency appointing authority.

Responsibilities:

· Receives records and distributes U.S. Mail in accordance with U.S. Postal Service Regulations and N.H. Department of Corrections Policies.



· Assures the integrity of privileged mail and the accountability of insured/registered mail for staff and residents.



· Inspects all resident mail for contraband and ensures that incoming and outgoing resident e-mails are also screened to ensure that they meet Departmental guidelines.


· Maintains all records pertaining to mail received, sent out of institution and funds received through the mail in accordance with Departmental Policies.



· Assists in other clerical duties involving the operation of the central mail room, including the operation of standard office equipment.
