Research and analyze criminal data in response to request for assistance in solving crimes
-
Maintains files on criminals' modus operandi (MO)
Analyzes daily criminal activity reports (Incident Reports and Filed Investigation Reports, etc.) to identify methods of operation, trends and possible suspects to assist law enforcement personnel to solve or prevent crimes

Update computerized crime data files to ensure the latest possible information on

Assist as necessary in developing methods of correlation of data and determination of patterns, trends, or common characteristics relating to crime within the City; developing conclusions and recommendations for improvement or correction of specific or related crime problems

Prepare and distribute current criminal intelligence reports to internal staff and other agencies to keep them apprised of current information.

A high school diploma or possession of a GED certificate with three (3) years of experience analyzing data, identifying trends and patterns and developing charts/graphs, and writing summary reports
OR:
-
An associate's degree from an accredited institution of higher education with a major in behavioral science, criminal justice, mathematics, statistics, or business administration

Two years of experience analyzing data, identifying trends and patterns and developing trend related charts/graphs, and writing summary reports

A bachelor's degree from an accredited institute of higher education with a major in behavioral or social science, criminal justice, or in technical sciences( mathematics, statics, computer science or related field)

One year of experience analyzing data, identifying trends and patterns and developing trend charts/graphs, and writing summary reports
Candidate must be able to successfully complete a full background investigation including but not limited to criminal, reference, employment, and neighborhood checks; polygraph; medical evaluation ; and narcotics screening

Working knowledge of the principles, practices, methods, and procedures used in crime research and analysis
-
Working knowledge of research methods and crime analysis techniques
Working knowledge of computer database and spreadsheet systems
Knowledge of the Uniform Crime Reporting (UCR) system
Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing
Principles and practices of program development and implementation
Ability to prepare and present clear, concise reports
Ability to work independently and effectively with others
Knowledge of recent developments, current literature and information related to crime analysis, geographic profiling, community policing and crime prevention
Crime patterns, series, trends and "hot spot" applications
Crime prevention and community oriented policing programs and applications
Principles, practices, methodologies, research and techniques of crime analysis, crime prevention and law enforcement.
