This role will be a member of NFP’s Legal Department with the primary focus being to help and assist NFP’s Legal department with various insurance defense matters. This is a full-time position and the selected candidate will work in a hybrid home/work environment.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Analyze complex legal and factual issues while conducting extensive and well-reasoned legal research
  • Present defense strategies on general corporate litigation matters.
  • Provide initial claim assessment on property and casualty brokerage risk
  • Support employment law functions
  • Review pleadings, written discovery, motions, and briefs in support of defense strategies
  • Provide effective and timely information, legal advice, and other services
  • Communicate with executive leadership, witnesses, opposing counsel, outside counsel and carriers with professional diplomacy and discretion
  • Participate in claims file reviews
  • Interacts with internal clients on regular basis
  • Respond to subpoenas and document requests
  • Draft standard agreement such as settlement agreements, NDAs, employment agreements
  • Participate in internal investigations and regulatory inquiries
  • Manage outside counsel relationship which includes invoice review and development of legal budgets

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Juris Doctorate Degree from an accredited law school and a license to practice law
  • Minimum of 6 years of legal practice with demonstrable litigation experience within insurance defense
  • Legal research and motion practice expertise
  • Positive-minded and collaborative team-player attitude
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Solid MS Office proficiency (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, & Outlook); Lexis Nexis experience is a plus!
  • Self-directed aptitude with excellent organizational and prioritization skills
  • Prior in-house experience preferred
  • This position requires 10-15% of travel
