Class Definition

GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES: To act, in the field, as an inspector of building construction projects on state-owned buildings to insure that work is being performed in accordance with plans and specifications; and to do related work as required.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Receives general and specific assignments from a superior with some latitude for the use of independent judgement; work is reviewed in process and upon completion for conformance to instructions.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED: May supervise personnel assigned to assist.

Illustrative Examples of Work Performed

To act, in the field, as an inspector of building construction projects on state-owned buildings to insure that work is being performed in accordance with plans and specifications.
To inform and advise a superior of apparent nonconformance to contract specifications.
To ascertain that materials used by contractors in the repair of state buildings conform to those called for in contract specifications.
In accordance with the instructions of a superior, to confer with contractors and architects on the proper interpretation of plans and specifications.
To interview salesmen relative to use of cleaning and operational merchandise.
To submit oral and written reports, as required.
To do related work as required.

Required Qualifications for Appointment

KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS AND CAPACITIES: A working knowledge of the principles and practices of building construction and repair; a working knowledge of materials used; the ability to interpret and apply construction plans and specifications; the ability to understand and apply the recommendations of an architect; the ability to compose simple written reports; and related capacities and abilities.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Education: Such as may have been gained through: graduation from a senior high school; and
Experience: Such as may have been gained through: employment in a position involved with the inspection of building construction and materials.
Or, any combination of education and experience that shall be substantially equivalent to the above education and experience.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

At the time of appointment must be physically qualified to perform assigned duties as evidenced by a physician's certificate.
