Duties Summary

The Visitor Information Program Assistant I is responsible for greeting, welcoming, and assisting the traveling public at the Kahului Airport; for providing information of interest to visitors to encourage travel to the major islands in the Hawaiian chain; and for incidentally performing various clerical duties and other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualification Requirements

To qualify, applicants must meet all of the following requirements:

Basic Experience: Applicants must possess experience which demonstrated the ability to read, understand and follow oral and written instructions, and a high degree of verbal skill. This requirement may also be met with the possession of a high school diploma or equivalent.

General Experience: One (1) year of work experience which demonstrated positive evidence that applicants possess patience, tact, and an even temper in meeting and dealing with others.

Substitutions Allowed: Successful completion of coursework from an accredited college or university may be substituted for the General Experience on the basis of fifteen (15) semester credit hours of coursework for six (6) months of General Experience, provided the coursework included at least three (3) semester credit hours of coursework in psychology, sociology, social work or other behavioral science.

Driver's License: Applicants must possess a valid driver's license at the time of appointment.

Federal Criminal History Records Check: In accordance with Federal regulations, persons who are being considered for employment in positions which require unescorted access to secured areas at the airport must undergo a pre-employment fingerprint-based criminal history record check.

In order to be granted the Security Identification Display Area (SIDA) clearance, prospective employees must not have been convicted, or found "not guilty by reason of insanity," of a disqualifying criminal offense within ten years from the date of the application. Upon recommendation for hire, prospective employees will be required to successfully undergo the fingerprint-based criminal history record check and be found free of disqualifying convictions during the preceding ten years.

The cost for the records check will be the applicant's responsibility.
