Primary Purpose:
Performs assignments to patients, employees and visitors within the realm of Transport Service. This includes transporting patients and providing mail services, e.g. the processing of the outgoing mail and the sorting/ distribution of the incoming and departmental mail by the internal courier services.
Job Accountabilities:
  • Transports patients via wheelchair or gurney according to the standards set forth. Documents orders from the Dispatcher onto the CTD (Centralized Transportation Department ) routing slip and ensures accurate entry. Proceeds immediately to patient care area to pick up patient. Check patient’s armband and chart to ensure accuracy before leaving the nursing unit or diagnostic lab.
  • Provides safe transport, following proper body mechanics and patient risk/precautions. Upon arrival at designated destination, ensures that the wheelchair or gurney is locked in place. Announces patient’s arrival at destination and ensures recognition; does not leave patient unattended.
  • Performs hourly courier services: collects and delivers medications, specimens, medical records, central distribution items, x-ray films, mail and packages.
  • Performs all mail service function according to the U.S. Postal Regulations. Operates post meter machines, labeler, and the document folder and inserter.
    Computes and totals postage expenditures at end of each month. Folds, addresses and distributes memorandums.
  • Ensures that patient mail is addressed for distribution for the same day departure. Sorts all inter-campus mail immediately upon receiving it in the mailroom. Sorts all P.O. Box and street addressed mail the same day by noon.
  • Collects and delivers stat specimens, e.g. blood gases and blood products upon request.
  • Ensures that mail requiring stamps is evaluated to affix appropriate postage.
  • Keeps current on all postal regulations.
  • Collates, addresses, and distributes diagnostic reports to physicians.

Qualifications:

Education/Experience
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Transport experience in a healthcare setting preferred
Licensure/Certifications
  • Transporter certification through the CPMC program preferred
  • Driver license, Valid and in state - DL number required
Skills/Knowledge
  • Good driving record and valid California driver's license.
  • Capable of lifting 50 lbs. or push approximately 300 lbs.
  • Computer skills desired.
