The position is located on Oahu (Downtown Honolulu).

Duties Summary

The Financial Surveillance and Examination Branch of the Insurance Division is seeking an CRF Insurance Examiner II.

The incumbent in this position will be responsible for the examination and financial analysis of the operations and practices of insurers to determine financial condition, solvency and compliance with applicable laws and regulations.

Minimum Qualification Requirements

Education: Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with a major in economics, business administration, accounting, or a related social science. The related social science major shall include 12 semester credit hours in accounting and/or auditing subjects.

Experience: Five (5) years of progressively responsible work experience in accounting, auditing or examination of business operations, of which three (3) years shall have been in the insurance field or of auditing or financial examination of insurance business operations.

Knowledge: Understanding the state laws, rules and regulations governing the conduct of the insurance business; principles and practices of accounting and auditing; insurance industry organizations, operations and practices; and financial and annual statements developed and/or approved by the NAIC.

Skills/Abilities: Detect and analyze irregularities and deficiencies of company operations; examine, verify and reconcile various financial accounts and records; write clear and concise reports; make recommendations on findings; establish and maintain effective working relationships with others; proficient in computer software including Lotus Notes, Microsoft Word, Excel and NAIC programs.

Legal Authorization to Work Requirement: The State of Hawaii requires all persons seeking employment with the government of the State shall be citizens, nationals, or permanent resident aliens of the United States, or eligible under federal law for unrestricted employment in the United States.

Other Information

This position is exempt from the civil service and considered temporary in nature. Therefore, if you are appointed to the position, your employment will be considered to be "at will," which means that you may be discharged from your employment at the prerogative of the department head or designee at any time.
