This position is a Pay Band 50

Purpose of Position

Interviews are anticipated to be conducted within two weeks of closing date.

Why does the job exist?

This position will operate medium to heavy duty equipment in a safe and efficient manner to repair and maintain interstate, roads, roadways, highways, bridges and structures, and erosion repairs throughout District One for the safety of the traveling public.

How does it get done?

By Operating medium to heavy duty equipment. Utilize hand and power tools. Perform operator level maintenance on equipment and tools.

Who are the customers?

The traveling public and pedestrians.

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate will have the following experience:

  • Six (6) months experience operating 10 yard dump truck, loader, backhoe, mower w/attachments,
Blade, roller, broom and other light to heavy duty equipment.
  • Ability to repair and maintain roadways and bridges, guardrail, fences and other roadway features.
  • Perform operator level preventive maintenance checks and services on equipment and tools.
  • Ability to utilize a computer.
  • Ability to utilize hand tools to service, clean, maintain and repair equipment,
buildings, grounds and fixtures.

Preference will be given to applicants with a Class "A" Commercial Driver's License (CDL).

Minimum Qualification

High School Diploma or Equivalent and six (6) months of experience maintaining roads and operating medium to heavy-duty equipment to include loader, five and ten yard dump truck, self -propelled broom, roller, and/or mower. This position may require Herbicide, Tanker and/or Hazmat endorsement. Substitutions Apply. See Substitution Table below.

Statutory Requirement:
Must possess a New Mexico Drivers License and must acquire a New Mexico Class B CDL within 6 months of hire. Post-offer Physical and Pre-Employment Drug Test are required for safety sensitive classifications.

Employment Requirements

Class B Commercial Drivers' License within six (6) months of hire required. Must pass demonstrative abilities with a 75% or better to advance to the interview.

Working Conditions

Executive Order 2021-066 requires all employees with the State of New Mexico to provide either proof of COVID-19 vaccination (including proof of a booster dose of vaccine by January 17, 2022, or within four weeks of becoming eligible for a booster dose) or proof of a COVID-19 viral test every week.

The Public Health Order (on Vaccination) dated December 2, 2021, requires Congregate Care Facility Workers and Hospital Workers to have received a primary series of vaccination by October 6, 2021, and a booster dose of vaccine by January 17, 2022, or within four weeks of becoming eligible for a booster.

Work is performed primarily in the field in varying weather conditions - hot or cold, humidity, wind, rain and snow, exposure to sunlight, dust, pollen, chemicals, exposure to moving mechanical parts, high precarious places, toxic fumes/chemicals and/or airborne particles, rough/rugged terrain, noxious plants and infected trash, exposure to hazardous chemicals, insects and reptiles, loud noises, confined spaces, stressful situations, subject to falls and bruises, considerable physical strain, high speed/high volume traffic, interaction with the public, local county, school and city officials by phone an in person, irregular hours day or night, subject to call out for emergencies, heavy lifting, sitting/standing, bending, squatting, climbing, reaching, kneeling and crawling for extended periods of time may be required. Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. Frequent temporary assignments that require travel and extended overnight stays; extended or irregular hours day or night; and call-out away from post of duty to include night time work and snow removal as applicable are required.
