The Public Employees Retirement System is recruiting for two (2) Office Specialist 2 positions within the Operations Division, Benefit Preparation Section.

  • These are permanent, full-time positions stationed out of Tualatin, Oregon.

  • These are hybrid working positions with the expectation of 1-2 days per week in the office (depending on business needs) with other days remote if desired.

  • This recruitment will be used to establish a list of qualified applicants to fill the current vacancies and may be used to fill future vacancies as they occur.

  • These positions are represented by the Service Employees International Union (SEIU).

Operations Division
The Operations Division is responsible for providing accurate information and timely customer services to PERS members, including comprehensive retirement plan information and assistance, issue resolution; providing accurate information and timely services to PERS employers including employer education, reporting assistance, compliance, overdue data, and contribution collection and validation; intake and processing of all benefit applications and stand-alone forms before and after retirement; initiating benefit estimates and processing purchases; determining eligibility for withdrawal; approving and denying disability applications; determining beneficiaries for pre- and post-retirement death benefits; reviewing court orders for compliance; calculating, maintaining, and ending all service retirement, disability, divorce, and death benefits for the PERS, OPSRP and IAP retirement programs.


What will you be doing:


Office Specialist 2, Death Benefit Support Assistant

You will receive, validate, verify, intake, process, data enter, and reconcile beneficiary forms accurately and timely for individual member accounts and/or processing of benefits as provided under multiple programs outlined in PERS retirement law. You will provide general administrative support for multiple programs. You will provide basic customer service in person, by phone, or in writing. You will request proof of death from the Department of Vital Statistics, review death certificates monthly, review accounts for claim closures and forward copies to death certificates for verification. Occasionally work with emotional subject matter.

Office Specialist 2, Disability Benefit Support Assistant

You will receive and process disability applications and membership forms as provided under multiple programs outlined in PERS retirement law. You will verify eligibility for benefits based on individual member information, applicant age, and length of service . You will reconcile forms accurately and timely for maintenance of disability accounts, and request medical, workers compensation, insurance, and employer records. Occasional work with emotional subject matter.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Two years of general clerical experience, one year of which included typing, word processing, or other experience generating documents; OR


An Associate's degree; OR

Graduation from a private school of business with a certificate AND one year of general clerical experience.
