Full Description

Overview

Writopia Lab, a national creative writing nonprofit, is looking for an IT Specialist to join our team. This is a full-time, overtime-eligible position in our Upper West Side office, reporting directly to the Chief Operations Officer. Though we are committed to making the vast majority of your weeks true 40-hour weeks, there will most definitely be weeks when you are required to put in extra hours to meet the organization's goals.

We are looking for someone smart and capable of quickly digesting new technologies, someone who can demonstrate that they have already done so, someone who is both meticulous and willing to put bold ideas on the table.

When we hire at Writopia Lab, we look for people who meet our requirements, feel passionate about our mission, and are willing to jump in anywhere they are needed.

Room to Grow

We are looking to fill this position with someone who will be part of the organization for years to come, and to grow this position into a management spot. We are prepared for significant expansion of responsibilities — and salary — over the years.

Impact

Writopia Lab works with thousands of young writers every year — in our Labs, in public and private schools, in lockdown facilities and hospitals, and in partnership with community based organizations around the country, as well as online. Because we are an intensely cloud-based organization, the IT team here has major impact not just on how we do our work, but on how our kids and teens experience the joy, literacy, and critical thinking that are core to our mission.

Writopia Lab's user base is 25 full-time employees using Windows and Mac laptops, 100 part-time instructors, and about 4,000 students using Chromebooks in 23 locations across six states and the District of Columbia (and, of course, at home). The IT team works hard to make things as easy for our users as possible while staying focused on security.

Responsibilities

At Writopia Lab, we all wear many hats. Though your role will be more specialized than most, you will be pulled into projects not related to technology, as well as many that are. In our immediate future we have a couple of tools-research projects to take on, as well as a couple of projects that are more focused on user engagement.

In addition to what is listed below, every employee will be pulled into tasks that serve the needs of the organization. Still the bulk of this position will be focused on technology, user support, and maintenance of systems.

You will work closely with the Chief Operations Officer to execute projects as well as contribute to policy and manage day-to-day operations in the areas mentioned below. We will lean heavily on your experience with and knowledge of the current state of relevant technologies.
