What You'll Be Doing

The Economic and Social Services Division includes more than 500 staff that provide a variety of services to address the needs of Wake County citizens. This Division is committed to protecting children and older adults by helping people meet their basic needs and strengthening families. The Food Assistance Program (once referred to as Food Stamps) helps low-income households with their monthly food expenses. The purpose of Food and Nutrition Services is to end hunger and improve nutrition and health. It helps eligible low-income households buy the food they need for a nutritionally adequate diet. We are recruiting for a Food and Nutrition Services - Eligibility Team Lead to join the Wake County team!

The Food and Nutrition Services Eligibility Team Lead provides advanced-level guidance and support to case management staff and trainees, acts as a resource for handling complex cases, and conducts case quality reviews. This position is housed at the Swinburne office in Raleigh and will travel to regional offices periodically.

Essential functions include:
Answering staff policy questions
Preparing and presenting mini-trainings to staff as needed
Meeting regularly with trainees to check work, monitor progress, and provide mentoring
Maintaining case action and case management responsibility for vacant caseloads and when a caseworker is absent, sick, or on leave
Completing quality reviews of staff casework
Assigning work to staff and providing supervisory coverage as needed
Answering general public and facility inquiries
Assisting Program Managers and other team leaders as needed

The Basics (Required Education and Experience)
Bachelor's degree
Two (2) years of job-related experience
A valid driver's license and a safe driving record may be required
Equivalent education or experience is accepted
Beyond the Basics (Preferred Education and Experience)

Two or more years of case manager experience in Food and Nutrition Services
Experience working in NC Fast

How Will We Know You're 'The One'?
Knowledge of Food and Nutrition Services
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Intermediate or higher skill level in Microsoft Excel
Ability to apply complex policy to determine client eligibility, instruct staff in determining eligibility and monitoring eligibility determinations
Ability to present information to individuals; ability to convey information clearly and concisely either verbally or in writing to ensure that listener understands the information and the message
Ability to listen and respond appropriately to others
Ability to be relied upon to ensure that projects within areas of responsibility are completed in a timely manner
Knowledge of principles and processes for providing excellent customer service. This includes customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction
