The Department of Corrections, Division of Pretrial, Probation and Parole, is recruiting for two (2) flexibly staffed Criminal Justice Technician's 1/2 position in Anchorage, Alaska.

What you will be doing:
This position provides technical and administrative support for the Anchorage Pretrial Office, which includes performing installation of electronic monitoring equipment, entering information into departmental databases, and obtaining urinalyses of same-sex defendants. Additionally, you will be responsible for supporting law enforcement professionals in the monitoring of pretrial defendants by completing intakes and office visits, maintaining records, updating APSIN and ACOMS databases, and filing violation reports.

CJTs perform a variety of a paraprofessional work in support of commissioned, certified, or other law enforcement professional staff, under general direction; and assist in administrative duties in support of maintaining a functioning office.

Minimum Qualifications

Graduation from high school or the equivalent.
AND
One year of advanced clerical experience.
OR
One year of law enforcement or criminal justice experience equivalent to Correctional Officer 1, Adult Probation Officer 1, Court Services Officer, Juvenile Probation Officer 1, Juvenile Justice Officer 1, or State Trooper Recruit with the State of Alaska.

SUBSTITUTION:
Post-secondary education will substitute for the experience on a month-for-month basis (3 semester hours or 4 quarter hours equal one month of experience).

Special Note:
High school graduation "equivalent" includes a G.E.D., or completion of any basic adult education course of 480 class hours (16 weeks at 30 hours per week), or six months of work experience performing duties related to the job class, or twelve months of work experience involving some routine tasks related to the job in question, or highest grade of school completed plus amount of work experience which totals 12 years.

FLEXIBLY STAFFED

This position is flexibly staffed. This vacancy may be filled at either the 1 or 2 level, depending on the applicant's training and/or experience. The salary range is identified at the top of this notice and depends on the experience of the selected candidate(s). Starting salary will be determined by the level at which the position is hired. If filled at level I, promotion to the level II will occur upon successful completion of the probationary period and required training, as well as the applicant meeting the minimum qualifications of the higher job class.

If you have not obtained a degree, please indicate the number of units completed. Copies of transcripts are required to verify educational credentials if used to meet the minimum qualifications for a position. Education completed in foreign colleges, universities, or high schools may be used to meet the minimum qualifications listed above. If utilizing this education, you must show that the education credentials have been submitted to a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign educational credentials and that such education has been deemed to be at least equivalent to that gained in conventional U.S. education programs; or an accredited U.S. post-secondary institution reports the other institution as one whose transcript is given full value, or full value is given in subject areas applicable to the curricula at the post-secondary institution or high school. It is your responsibility to provide such evidence when applying.

CRIMINAL HISTORY CHECKS/APSIN/ACOMS
Please be aware – this position requires the use of the Alaska Public Safety Information Network (APSIN)/Alaska Corrections Offender Management System (ACOMS). A security clearance issued by the Department of Public Safety (DPS) is necessary to use APSIN/ACOMS. DPS will deny security clearance for any applicant who has been convicted of a felony or misdemeanor in this state or another jurisdiction, or who may be a fugitive from justice. Additionally, security clearance will be withdrawn if DPS discovers that material information was falsified or omitted at the time of the initial application for security clearance.
