Cherry County Court in Valentine, NE is currently accepting applications for a full time Clerk Magistrate I. This is highly responsible administrative and managerial work under the general direction of the presiding judge for the Cherry County Court and may include limited judicial functions involving non-contested matters as assigned. This position will be subject to the Code of Judicial Conduct. The position may involve additional travel to other Courts within the 5th judicial district as needed. Location of position: Cherry County Court, Valentine, NE

Work schedule: 8 - 5 M - F

Examples of Work

This position serves as administrative support to the county judges and may be delegated a variety of responsibilities including planning, organizing, staffing, directing and supervising administrative activities of the court. Performs the supervisory functions of hiring, monitoring and evaluating work performances and required disciplinary actions concerning court staff. Oversees and has ultimate responsibility for all clerical and financial records.

Qualifications / Requirements

REQUIREMENTS: Three years of progressively responsible experience in court administration or another business setting, including some supervisory experience. With the minimum of a high school degree or equivalent, experience working in a court system may be substituted for higher education on a year-for-year basis.

PREFERRED: Bachelor's degree in public/business administration, court administration, or related field.

OTHER: To successfully complete the original provisional period and become a permanent employee, all employees in this position must complete JUSTICE training within six months from the date of hire and demonstrate proficiency in knowledge and use of the court computer system.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Considerable knowledge of office and/or Court practices, procedures and strong management skills.

Ability to plan, assign, coordinate, supervise and manage the work of employees engaged in a variety of court clerical activities; to maintain effective working relationships with personnel at all levels; to implement decisions and communicate effectively.

Ability to travel to other courts within the district as needed.
