The Department of Healthcare and Family Services, Division of Child Support Services is seeking a qualified and motivated individual to join our Cook County Judicial Operations team in the role of Child Support Specialist II. This position requires knowledge, skill and mental development equivalent to the completion of four years of college with course work in one of the behavioral sciences. Requires two years of professional experience in casework or related area. Requires the ability to travel.

Job Responsibilities

  • Interviews applicants and/or reviews UIFSA petitions received from other IV-D agencies/jurisdictions for public assistance and non-assistance to establish, modify, and enforce financial and medical support obligations of legal NCPs and/or putative fathers
  • Initiates legal pleadins for transmittal to the office of the Attorney General and other legal representatives for the filing of a support or paternity action
  • Interviews absent parents, putative fathers, and spouses
  • Serves as liaison to and develops working relationships with the Attorney General, other legal representatives, other jurisdictions, employees, and the community
  • Interprets family support policies, rules, and procedures for staff, clients, absent parents, and legal representatives and monitors implementation to ensure federal regulations are met
  • Assists regional and central office support staff in making limited filed investigations to locate employers, absent parents, or putative fathers when leads indicate they are working/residing in the area and in locating absent parents whose addresses are unknown
  • Performs other duties as required which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above

Minimum Qualifications

  • Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to the completion of four years of college with course work in one of the behavioral sciences
  • Requires two years of professional experience in casework or related areas
