Security Benefit (SB), a leader in the retirement saving and income solutions market, seeks a Portfolio Manager – Private Equity and Alternative Investments to join our Investment Department. Position will work in Des Moines, Iowa or our home office in Topeka, Kansas.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Pricing – Lead the creation and maintenance of pricing models on Private Equity and Alternative Investments portfolio using market consistent measures and utilizing them on a monthly basis to price certain investments.
  • Reporting – Establish and consistently deliver ad hoc and periodic reporting on Private Equity investments.
  • Audit/Finance – Partner with and respond to internal and external audit requests as well as other internal finance requests/processes relating to Private Equity & Alternative Investments such as OTTI analysis.
  • Legal Documentation – Coordinate with legal team(s) ensuring appropriate legal documentation is acquired to support Private Equity and Alternative Investments.
  • Financial Analysis – Conduct financial analysis and overall due diligence on potential and existing Private Equity and Alternative Investments to understand business performance, operating trends, operating and financial forecasts, industry dynamics and assessing the overall risk of an individual potential Private Equity & Alternative Investments.
  • Operations Analysis – Ensure Security Master File (“SMF”) is accurate for each Private Equity and Alternative Investments including resultant asset analytics, investment reconciliations, and providing principal and interest breakdowns on certain Private Equity and Alternative Investments as distributions are received. Perform core Private Equity and Alternative Investments Portfolio Management functions, including: obtaining capital account statements from fund administrators or General Partner, obtaining K-1’s and other required tax documentation, and ensuring capital calls are processed efficiently and effectively.
  • Relationship Management – Form and maintain business relationships by interfacing with borrowers and other sources of Private Equity investment origination.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree required, preferably in Finance, Economics, or related field
  • Desire to attain CFA, CCIM, and/or MBA preferred (support provided)
  • Proficient expertise in quantitative, analytical, modeling and financial analysis skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office applications
  • Ideal candidate will be well organized, independent, entrepreneurial, assertive, self-motivated, detail oriented and able to work in a fast-paced environment on multiple projects
  • Ideal candidate will be intellectually curious, possessing a strong desire to understand complex loans and situations in a dynamic environment
  • Strong work ethic with a team-oriented approach
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to work well with people at all levels of the organization and develop/maintain external relationships
