Responsible for three major areas:
Communications (external and internal)

State & local legislative affairs

Community Relations & Events

Primary responsibility is planning, developing, and executing Austal USA’s communications strategy, including messaging, and internal and external communications. Elements of the communications strategy include media relations, content development, and social and digital media engagement for Austal USA.

Develop and execute internal and external communications campaigns.

Develop and present short and long-term strategic communication campaigns to support current and future business objectives.

Build and grow relations with media including trade, local, national, and international media.

Develop plans and metrics for integrated marketing and communications. Monitor progress and report on key performance indicators.

Manage brand identity and coordinate its appearance across all platforms.

Lead the design, production, and distribution of company communications.

Coordinate with customer, supplier, and other communications and public affairs teams to promote / address areas of common interest.

Responsible for supporting engagement with state and local governments. Ensure Austal USA remains aware of state and regional legislative activity that impacts Austal USA. Work with other stakeholders to develop positions on issues potentially impacting Austal USA. Develop and execute key state and local legislative strategies.

Provide oversight on the development and management of Austal USA’s community engagement strategy.

Provide oversight on the development and management of major events such as christenings, VIP visits, tours, and special large employee events.

Promote best practices in executing communications strategy across Austal USA – both internal and external communications.

Oversee annual communications budget development, on-going tracking and reporting.

The ideal candidate is a highly organized self-starter with a track record of developing and executing successful communications strategies and programs.

Minimum 10 years of relevant experience in communications or communications related field. Must demonstrate excellent written communication skills and understand digital communications.

Excellent communicator with ability to influence and persuade across all levels of the organization.

Demonstrated ability to grow and influence target market audience to support business development activities of Austal USA.

Working knowledge of, and experience with the Department of Defense, defense industry, and Congress is a plus. Experience in shipbuilding industry desired but not required.

Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism, Marketing, or related field.

Experience successfully building and motivating high-performing teams.

Possess strong public speaking and communications skills.

Strong business analytics, relationship management, strategy development, project management, problem solving, and change management skills.

ADDITIONAL GUIDELINES:
Position will necessitate travel on a regular basis, primarily to Austal USA office in Washington, D.C. and Austal USA’s San Diego facility. Position will also necessitate travel around the state for state and local engagement opportunities.

Candidates must meet the following employment eligibility guidelines to be considered for employment with Austal USA:

Must be fully vaccinated for COVID-19

18 years of age or older.

Able to provide proof of US Person Status.

No felony convictions of theft / deception or violent crimes within seven years from disposition date.

No felony convictions of drug crimes within three years from disposition date

Willing to submit to a drug screen.

Willing to submit to a background check.
