Job Description:

The Oregon Military Department is a state agency that supports the Oregon National Guard.

The Oregon Military Department is recruiting for a Facility Maintenance Specialist. This is a permanent full-time state position located in the Baker City, Oregon.

This position is represented by the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees’ (AFSCME) union.

WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING:

The Facility Maintenance Specialist provides the agency with skilled and semi-skilled labor in the performance of maintenance and repair activities as well as custodial services on various facilities and grounds. Conducts various inspections of facilities including safety, mechanical and preventative maintenance document findings file reports track time. Represent the agency to the general public and conduct rental contract negotiations. Schedule vendors as needed to complete required work.

Working Conditions:

Exposed to loud noises; works from ladders and various types of lifting devices from heights. Exposed to unsanitary conditions. Uses cleaning chemicals several times monthly. Works in windy, cold or inclement weather. Uses power tools; required to push, pull and lift / carry up to 50 lbs. May be required to travel using a state vehicle. Required to perform duties wearing PPE. Occasional work is required outside of normal duty hours to mitigate emergency situations. Required to bend, stoop and stand for long periods of time.

Work Experience
The work experience section of your application must include a clear description of your experience in order to determine if you meet the required skills (minimum and special qualifications) and at what level you meet the requested skills. Work experience is based on a 40-hour work week. (Example: 20 hours a week for one year would equal six-months of work experience.)

What you need to qualify:

Two years of: a) general building maintenance; b) carpentry; c) electrical; d) mechanical; e) painting; OR f) plastering experience.

**OR**

A journeyman’s license/card in: a) general building maintenance; b) carpentry; c) electrical; d) mechanical; e) painting; OR f) plastering.

Additional Requirements / Conditions of Employment

Must possess and maintain a valid driver license;

NOTE: If applying from out of state, please be prepared to provide a 3-year driving abstract from your local Department of Motor Vehicles.

Must have and maintain a favorable Criminal background History check and be able to obtain and maintain a favorable Department of Defense National Agency Check with Inquiries (NACI) Suitability Determination. Conviction of a crime will not automatically preclude appointment, the circumstances involved in the conviction will be considered;

Employee is required to maintain a drug/alcohol free workplace in accordance with the applicable collective bargaining agreement.

Desired Attributes / Special Qualifications:

  • Basic knowledge of electrical systems such as breakers, disconnects, lighting systems and electrical driven power equipment;

  • Experience in preventative maintenance on commercial kitchen equipment such as electric/gas appliances, ice machines, refrigeration, and dishwashers;

  • Experience modifying, cleaning, and maintaining plumbing, sewer, and storm drains;

  • Experience with facility management computer software such as work orders.
