Full Description

DUTIES: Responsibilities include: (1) lead the premier University jazz ensemble and administer and direct the University of Utah jazz program; (2) teach other courses related to expertise such as Jazz Composition and Arranging, Jazz Theory, Jazz History, and applied jazz lessons (private lessons); (3) develop and maintain a national/international reputation as a jazz musician; (4) recruit undergraduate and graduate level jazz students; (5) coordinate recruitment efforts with relevant studio and music education faculty; (6) strengthen and promote jazz chamber ensembles in the program; (7) perform administrative duties and serve on committees as assigned; (8) collaborate effectively with all faculty and administration to advance the mission of the School and the national prominence of the University of Utah and the School of Music.

Salary commensurate with qualifications and experience.
QUALIFICATIONS: Minimum qualifications include: an earned graduate degree in jazz studies or other relevant field; a doctorate is preferred; demonstrated achievement as a jazz ensemble director at the university level; a substantial record of creative and/or scholarly achievement in jazz at the national and/or international level; demonstrated successful teaching, program leadership, and student recruiting; demonstrated collaboration with faculty colleagues; and demonstrated support and vision to expand the existing active relationship with public school programs.
