Full Description

Habitat for Humanity of Summit & Wasatch Counties, UT is seeking to expand its leadership team with an experienced, outgoing, driven, and detail-oriented Director of Development as they embark on their biggest build effort to date.

The Director of Development will be responsible for designing, planning, implementing, and evaluating a comprehensive fund-raising program for Habitat for Humanity of Summit and Wasatch Counties, with an emphasis on building philanthropic relationships with individuals; for overseeing marketing, communications, and public relations; and establishing and maintaining a high level of accountability for fund raising quality, ethical standards, and effectiveness.

Key Responsibilities:
Resource Development
Revenue sources include individuals, foundations, corporations, and government. A comprehensive program includes, but is not limited to individual annual giving, including major gifts; direct mail; capital campaigns; planned giving; special events; grants; and memberships. The Director of Development will meet or exceed annual revenue goals and make recommendations and adjustments as needed. They will also grow revenue year-over-year to support new programs by opportunistically expanding relationships with all funding sources.
Staff Supervision
  • Supervise assigned staff, which is currently the Community Engagement and Marketing Manager and a contract grant writer.
  • Create a strong, cohesive, effective team whose work supports Habitat’s core strategies and annual work plan.
  • Make regular, effective communication with other staff a top priority
  • Clarify roles and responsibilities; establish clear performance expectations and reasonable work plans; arrange timely orientation and training; provide regular constructive guidance and meaningful performance reviews; articulate and model high professional and ethical standards.
  • Provide staff with the support, resources, and opportunities they need to do their job successfully and grow professionally.
Major Gifts

Individual Giving and Annual Campaign
  • Plan, execute and measure direct- and in-person-response solicitation initiatives.
  • Acknowledge all gifts in a timely and appropriate fashion, with high-touch approaches for major donors.
  • Maintain and strengthen relationships with current donors, funders, and leadership volunteers. Identify and leverage new relationships within the community.
Private and Public Grants
  • Supervise the grant writer to ensure that private and public grants are completed in a timely manner, and that ongoing research for new opportunities is conducted.
  • Assist in writing funding proposals
  • Represent Habitat with private and public funders.
Special Events
  • Take strategic responsibility for planning Habitat’s annual Overall Ball, working with the Community Engagement and Marketing Manager to ensure goals are met. Take the lead on securing event sponsorships
  • Oversee planning, organizing, and publicizing any other fund raising and special events sponsored by Habitat
Donor and Member Databases
  • Monitor record-keeping systems and management of donor databases.
  • Oversee prospect research
  • Maintain the quality of all donor records, ensuring their accuracy and confidentiality.
Marketing, Communications, and Public Relations
  • Oversee all Habitat efforts in the areas of marketing, communications, and public relations. Plan, develop, and implement strategies to reach out to and communicate with key publics (including the media) about Habitat for Humanity and its work.
Marketing
  • Plan marketing campaigns and oversee implementation.
  • Lead market research and analysis for all constituents, based upon results, help develop new programs and services. In addition, use learnings to tailor marketing and solicitation messaging.
  • Create pricing and distribution strategies as needed.
Communications
  • Approve the writing, design, production, and distribution/maintenance of communications for external audiences, ensuring a high degree of professionalism, consistency of message, and graphic identity.
  • Become familiar with and implement Habitat International corporate identity guidelines.
  • Maintain Crisis Communications Plan, organize reviews/drills as needed, and ensure contact lists (including critical stakeholders and media) and organization/program talking points are current.
Public Relations
  • Serve as spokesperson when requested by Executive Director.
  • Approve press releases and media outreach.
  • Regularly identify and develop opportunities to publicize Habitat’s work.
  • Arrange media announcements and interviews as needed.
  • Superb interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills (verbal and written), including polished presentation skills.

Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • 5 to 7 years of progressive professional experience in nonprofit sector fundraising.
  • Proven record of accomplishment in generating significant revenue from public, private, and nonprofit sources, including supervisory experience and working with volunteer leadership.
  • Strong marketing, communications, and public relations skills, including experience with the media.
  • Ability to create and sustain strong, effective relationships with internal and external publics.
  • The ability to think strategically, develop plans, and execute and evaluate them successfully.
  • Collaborative team player who works effectively and constructively with colleagues and staff across programs and departments as well as throughout the organization.
  • Excellent administrative skills, which may include contract administration and compliance, program development and evaluation.
  • Excellent computer skills including proficiency with MS Office and database software relevant to the position.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Professional and comfortable with a variety of people and audiences, which may include the media.

Preferred:
Master’s in related field strongly preferred

Salary Range: $75,000-$90,000, depending on experience.
