Minimum Qualifications:
A Bachelor’s degree in political science, public affairs, communications, business, or other closely related field. Evidence of years of experience working in political and government relations, communications, or other related experience.

Preferred Qualifications:
Master’s degree in political science, public affairs, communications, business, or other closely related field. Five (5) years of experience working in government relations, communications, or other related experience.
Job Responsibilities
Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Organizes meetings and events with elected and appointed officials, policy makers, their staffs, and other stakeholders to foster relationships and understanding of key issues that impact the university. Will represent the Office of the President at external events, meetings and serve on committees such as RTC, University & Policy, Student Affairs.
  • Responsible for establishing and fostering relationships with the community, Alumni associations, university foundation board members and local, state and federal elected officials to promote Grambling State University. Manages cultivation and outreach strategies at the local level by actively networking and serving as a key representative on local and state-wide boards and efforts that support University/HBCU priorities.
  • Collaborate with Student Affairs, Communications and University leadership to analyze potential impacts on the institution. Ensures alignment of local, State, and federal engagement strategies, partnerships, programs, and initiatives with University and Academic Strategic Plans.
  • Participates in various speaking engagements on behalf of GSU and the office of the President. Developing talking points, fact sheets for President.
  • Assist Chief of Staff in providing oversight of new student and pending graduate surveys. Analyze data obtained from students relevant to their experience and level of engagement to inform decisions regarding services provided at the university, as well as to identify areas of potential growth.
  • Assist Chief of Staff in acting as university ombudsperson, charged with representing the interests of the student population and addressing complaints of maladministration and/or a violation of university policies. Coordinates with Student Affairs to train and support student legislative programs and initiatives.
  • All other duties assigned by the Chief of Staff
