CUSTODIAN, Facilities-Custodial Services (multiple openings), to clean all assigned areas of the Institute, which may include classrooms, laboratories, research facilities, conference rooms, lounges, bathrooms, hallways, stairwells, entryways, elevators,private offices, auditoriums, gymnasiums, and secure areas such as entrance and office doors. Duties will include emptying trash and recycling receptacles located inside buildings and placing trash and recycling in bins and dumpster; cleaning and disinfectingrestrooms including the fixtures; restocking paper products and soap and removing used products; cleaning and polishing furniture; cleaning chalk boards, chalk trays, and erasers; cleaning event spaces before and after; dry and wet mopping and vacuuming floors;dusting and spot cleaning walls and doors in high and low areas; cleaning and disinfecting drinking fountains; cleaning interior windows and interior/exterior doorway windows; cleaning mirrors and other glass surfaces; and cleaning up water and debris dueto leaks and flood with wet pickup vacuums.

Job Requirements
REQUIRED: ability to lift weights of up to 50 lbs., push and pull tilt trucks that hold up to 100 lbs., walk/stand for a majority of the shift, climb stairs, and perform custodial tasks. Personal protective equipment (PPE) must be worn as requiredby the specific assignment. PREFERRED: a high school diploma or its equivalent and two years’ relevant experience. Job #20106

The schedule for the position is Sunday through Thursday, 11:00 P.M. to 7:00 A.M.

Custodians assigned to a day or irregular shift, which includes weekends and holidays, must have a valid driver's license. (Custodians assigned to these shifts prior to January 1, 2016, are exempt from this requirement.) Custodians assigned to other shiftsare not required to have a valid driver’s license; however, custodians who possess a valid driver’s license may be asked to drive on a voluntary basis.

Employees assigned to an irregular shift are considered essential personnel in accordance with the MIT’s Policy on Emergency Closing or Early Release. During emergencies, these employees are excused from their regularly scheduled work only with the specificauthorization of their supervisor, regardless of any public announcement that the Institute is closed. Employees who work a regular established work scheduled are not considered essential personnel.
