The Department of Transportation is seeking an individual responsible for conducting standardized knowledge examinations, and administering pre-trip and driving tests for commercial and non-commercial driver license applicants.

DESCRIPTION OF WORK

Conducts standardized On Road examinations to evaluate the skill and competence of Non-Commercial Driver License applicants safely and courteously.

Determines the physical conditions and driving qualifications of an applicant and the mechanical condition of vehicles in conformance with established guidelines and standards.

Performs pre-trip inspections of vehicles before administering the driving tests and checks motor vehicles for inspection stickers, lights, windshield wipers and other mechanical features to ensure safety and for knowledge of the controls by the applicant.

Examines applications, registrations and permits for possible irregularities and fraud.

Administers the CDL and Non-CDL knowledge examination that tests applicants for knowledge and understanding of the motor vehicle code and traffic signs. Evaluates the applicant's ability in practical demonstration of motor vehicle operation and observance of the rules of the road.

Administers telebinocular, color perception, and other tests of vision.

Audits Third Party Examiners for contract compliance by observing the Third Party Examiners administer a CDL skills test in a representative vehicle and scoring along with the Third Party Examiner while administering a CDL Skills test to an applicant. Audits Third Party CDL test sites for contract compliance by checking files and all necessary documents required and certifies completing an audit report.

Work Hours and Additional Information:


  • Full-time employment
  • Work Schedule: Tuesday through Saturday, 8:15 am to 4:45 pm, with a 30 minute lunch
  • This position will require overtime and travel
  • This position requires a valid non-commercial Class C Driver's License with a Class M, which may be obtained within the first six months of employment or expiration of the probationary period, whichever comes later.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

Qualifications:

  • Minimum Experience and Training Requirements - Two years of experience obtaining, evaluating and providing information to the public.
  • Necessary Special Requirement - Possession of a valid non-commercial Pennsylvania Class C Driver's License.
  • Necessary Special Requirement - Must be twenty-one years of age at the time of application.
  • Condition of Employment - No suspensions or revocations of a driver's license during the five year period immediately preceding appointment.
  • This position requires a valid non-commercial Class C Driver's License with a Class M, which may be obtained within the first six months of employment or expiration of the probationary period, whichever comes later.
