ABOUT THIS ROLE: This is an entry-level emergency management position responsible for:

  • Data entry, recordkeeping, and inventory functions.
  • Maintaining Emergency Operations Center (EOC) facilities and applications.
  • Providing technical assistance, support, and basic user interface training on EOC systems to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Maintaining community outreach and education materials, electronic media, and or/training activities and assisting with periodic instruction or delivery of these materials to community organizations.

During emergency events, the incumbent will be assigned to a mission controller or situation unit role in the EOC.

PREFERENCES: The successful candidate will have a minimum of a High School Diploma/GED and at least one year of experience in an EOC environment responding to or recovering from a natural, technological, or human-caused disaster, along with strong customer service and organizational skills. The most qualified candidate will be a self-starter who is not afraid to innovate and is able to dynamically transition between projects and programs in both leader and participant roles.

SCHEDULE REQUIREMENTS:

Incumbents will generally work Monday – Friday during normal business hours, with the periodic need to work night or weekend hours in support community planning efforts, outreach presentations, or instructional course delivery. The nature of the position affords some flexibility for flexible scheduling and occasional telework during non-emergency conditions. In the event of an emergency activation or planned event that requires staffing of an assigned Emergency Operations Center role, work will be on 12-hour shifts, potentially overnight, and for up to 14 days until incident conditions allow for reduction in staffing levels.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must be able to perform duties outside of normal business hours and maintain approval to operate a

county vehicle.

  • Must successfully complete the FEMA Professional Development Series within one year of hire.

ENTRY SALARY RANGE:

The starting salary range for this position is $23.67 – 35.51/hr ($46,156.50 - $69,44.00/yr).

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Positions in this class typically require: reaching, standing, walking, fingering, grasping, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions.

Light Work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. If the use of arm and/or leg controls requires exertion of forces greater than that for Sedentary Work and the worker sits most of the time, the job is rated for Light Work.
