- Transportation Planner -

The transportation planner conducts transportation planning studies, including data collection, analysis, and reporting,
related to all modes of transportation. Responsibilities are performed under moderate supervision

- Intermediate Transportation Planner -

The intermediate transportation planner conducts studies and investigations, including data collection, analysis, and
reporting, related to all modes of transportation. Responsibilities are performed under moderate supervision.

- Senior Transportation Planner -

The senior transportation planner conducts and supervises studies and investigations, including data collection, analysis,
and reporting related to all modes of transportation. Responsibilities are performed under general supervision.

Minimum/Required Qualifications:
- Transportation Planner -

Bachelor's Degree: Engineering, Business Administration, Public Administration, Transportation, Planning, Economic
Development, or related field

- Intermediate Transportation Planner -

Bachelor's Degree: Engineering, Business Administration, Public Administration, Planning, Economic Development, or
related field

Two years of experience in transportation engineering or planning.

- Senior Transportation Planner -

Bachelor's Degree: Engineering, Business Administration, Public Administration, Planning, Economic Development, or
related field

Four years of experience in transportation engineering or planning.

- Transportation Planner -

This position provides customer support for Transportation Management System (TMS) users, conducts testing of TMS
applications, works with IS developers to coordinate monthly TMS updates, creates training manuals and conducts TMS
training, and provides custom data requests for both internal and external customers.

Knowledge of TMS and mapping applications is beneficial.

Experience with TMS Traveler Information applications and/or Emergency Operations Center (EOC) is beneficial.

Experience with conducting training (both in person and by video conference) and creating training manuals is beneficial.

Knowledge of drupal software is beneficial.

Customer service experience is beneficial.

Job requires occasional, statewide, overnight travel.

- Transportation Planner -

  • Studies objectives and methods of collection, analysis, and reduction of data on assigned projects.
  • Conducts research to gather information, reviews information to ensure validity of materials, and prepares analyses of

the collected data.

  • Develops recommendations and prepares projected data; maintains programs, databases, and historical files of

related data.

  • Serves as a liaison between the department and local agencies, regional planning commissions, metropolitan
planning organizations, and the general public, and provides assistance in developing and meeting local, regional,
and statewide transportation goals.
  • Administers federal funds for various projects, which includes reviewing program requirements, documents, and data,
calculating and monitoring funding levels, and obligating funds.
  • Queries, analyzes, and summarizes multiple forms of data for department staff and government officials.
  • Prepares reports based on results of studies and investigations.
  • Performs other responsibilities as required or assigned.

- Intermediate Transportation Planner -

  • Develops objectives and methods of collection, analysis, and reduction for assigned projects.

  • Serves as a liaison between the department and local agencies, regional planning commissions, metropolitan

planning organizations, and the general public, and provides assistance in developing and meeting local, regional,
and statewide transportation goals.

  • Conducts studies through compilation, analyses, projections and other data to develop or promote local, regional and
state planning projects and programs.
  • Compiles planning data and develops recommendations and projections of data; maintains programs and historical
files of related data.
  • Prepares or assists in the preparation of reports based on results of studies and investigations; provides technical
support for various computer databases and applications.
  • Administers federal funds for various functions; prepares, executes and monitors agreements; processes invoices for
payment.
  • Queries, analyzes, and summarizes multiple forms of data for department staff and government officials.
  • Performs other responsibilities as required or assigned.

- Senior Transportation Planner -

  • Develops objectives and determines procedures necessary for the collection, analysis, reduction, and presentation of
data used in the assigned section.
  • Serves as a liaison between the department and local agencies, regional planning commissions, metropolitan
planning organizations, and the general public, and provides assistance in developing and meeting local, regional,
and statewide transportation goals.
  • Conducts or supervises studies and investigations; analyzes and evaluates data; develops recommendations and
prepares reports based on results.
  • Compiles planning data and develops recommendations and projections of data; maintains program and historical
files of related data.
  • Works with district scoping teams to ensure that plans and projects comply with legal, regulatory, and fiscal
requirements and constraints.
  • Administers federal funds for various planning functions; reviews program requirements, documents, and data,
calculating and monitoring funding levels, and obligating funds; prepares, executes and monitors planning
agreements.
  • Develops, negotiates, and manages planning related consultant contracts; may budget and prioritize projects to be
included in the statewide transportation improvement program.
  • Utilizes and provides technical support for various computer databases and applications, including balance sheets
that track highway and construction projects schedules and costs.
  • May review proposed legislation to analyze possible affects to the department; recommends changes in future
legislation to benefit the department.
  • May develop, maintain, or verify present and future travel demand models for urban areas; may review design and/or
construction plans and specifications to ensure conformance to planning documents.
  • Represents the division or district with planning partners, on department-wide teams/task forces, district teams, and
various planning-related conferences and workshops.
  • Performs lead worker responsibilities, which may include providing general instruction, assigning and reviewing work,
coaching and training, providing guidance and instruction in the proper and most efficient methods of accomplishing

tasks, and providing input to the direct supervisor on staffing decisions and performance management.

  • Performs other responsibilities as required or assigned.
