Summary

Responsibilities

  • You will serve as a non-clinical consultant on a wide variety of work and family life issues and concerns.
  • You will conduct interviews and assess client's needs and concerns such as relocations, career resource development, and personal financial issues.
  • You will assist clients with career, occupational, volunteer and educational issues by delivering services to equip client with career/job search skills.
  • You will report progress and make recommendations on program planning agency coordination, and follow-up procedures to the manager supervisor.

    Qualifications

    In addition to the Basic Requirements for this position, your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of Specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-07 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1.) Use social service delivery systems to assess the needs and concerns of clients. 2.) Conduct interviews to establish the nature and extent of concerns or issues. 3) Provide assistance in developing family goals and plans.

    Education

    The following education may be substituted for specialized experience: A masters or equivalent graduate degree OR two full years of progressively higher graduate level education leading to a masters degree OR a combination of experience and education as described above that equates to one year of experience. The percentage of the required education plus the percentage of the required experience must equal one hundred percent.

    Applicants must meet the following Basic Requirements of the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualifications Standards Manual: Applicants must possess a behavioral or social science degree, or a degree in a related discipline appropriate to the position being filled; OR a combination of education and experience that provided knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field OR four years of appropriate experience that demonstrates knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field.

    This announcement uses the Defense Industrial Base, Major Range and Test Facilities direct hire authority to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to certain positions in the competitive service.

    PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
    The regular and recurring work involves sitting at a desk and in conferences and meetings. Duties may require some travel top different offices, civilian and military, within the local area and local travel, as well as some travel away from the Fleet and Family Support Center (FFSC). Hours may vary dependent on client needs and may require some evenings and weekends. Incumbent may be required to carry objects such as overhead projectors weighing 25 pounds or less.

    WORK ENVIRONMENT: The normal work environment is in an adequately lighted and temperature controlled office setting or conference room. Incumbent may be required to board Navy vessels to provide (FFSC) programs to crewmembers while the ship is in port or underway in route to homeport from last port call. Employee must be able to traverse ladders on board Navy vessels.
    In cases of emergency situations involving military families, incumbent may be put on a twenty-four hour, seven days a week on-call status. Situations will be identified by higher authority as to determination of an emergency but in most cases would be a natural or manmade disaster or disaster at sea to ships and/or planes.

    A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if the selectee fails to meet the pre-employment requirements, including failure to report to any of the scheduled appointments.
