Position Overview:

The Payroll Specialist will be responsible for multi-state payroll administration and will be based out of our New Hampton, IA location. This is a full time position, reports to the Payroll Manager and has no supervisory responsibility.

General Duties and Functions:

  • Be prompt and timely for all assigned shifts, schedules and projects
  • Be aware of and familiar with the Company Handbook and abide by the employment policies and regulations
  • Teach, coach and work with team in a constructive manner
  • Consistently keep desk area clean and organized to promote professionalism and efficiency
  • Actively participate in any recommended or mandatory trainings
  • Maintain a positive working relationship with co-workers and management
  • Additional duties as assigned by management, as this job description is non-exhaustive
  • Willingness to perform duties outside normal scope of work (i.e. work outside normal hours)

Essential Duties and Functions:

  • Review and enter weekly timecards into payroll software
  • Prepare and process weekly payrolls
  • Process garnishments
  • Review Job cost, equipment and hours
  • Print and distribute earnings statements
  • Calculate wages for federal jobs
  • Update and maintain payroll files to reflect payroll changes
  • Verify correct individual and state taxes
  • Occupational and Worksite Reporting
  • Assist Payroll Lead as needed with payroll tax filings
  • Process unemployment claims and decisions
  • Process Accounts Receivable employee benefit payments
  • Communicate with employees and outside resources
  • Coordinate with other depts. including Benefits, Accounts Payable, Human Resources, Accounting and Operations
  • Cross-train with applicable positions

Position Requirements:

  • Consent to authorization of a pre-employment background check
  • Must be able to pass a drug test
  • Two year degree in accounting or equivalent experience required
  • Possess a solid understanding of multi-state payroll practices
  • PC proficiency (specifically Microsoft applications) required
  • Self-directed and motivated to exceed expectations
  • Work with employees, managers and government agencies regarding issues and questions
  • Maintain confidentiality
  • Detail and deadline oriented
  • Excel in both the technical and customer service aspects of payroll
  • Strong time management, organizational and problem solving skills
  • Possess excellent communication skills in both written and verbal forms

Preferred Skills and Knowledge:

  • Certified payroll experience
  • Minimum three years of payroll experience
