Job Description:

The Snake River Correctional Institution in Ontario, Oregon is actively recruiting for highly motivated individual who is willing to think "outside the box" for creative solutions, possesses a “can do" attitude, and is a team player. There are currently one (1) Office Specialist 2 position vacant. This position works in the Correctional Rehabilitation section and is located inside the secure facility and in a shared office space with typical office interruptions, including ringing phones, conversations in open space, etc. Confidentiality and discretion are vital to the success of this position.

ABOUT THE FACILITY

SRCI is the largest prison in Oregon with 2,336 medium-security beds, 154 minimum-security beds and 510 Special Housing beds, Administrative Segregation, Disciplinary Segregation, Intensive Management, and Infirmary. SRCI has several unique features such as decentralized adults in custody (AICs) services that enable the department to separate various offenders into discrete housing units. It also has a comprehensive corridor system connecting housing, program, and work areas so that AICs can move from one area to another under all types of weather conditions.

WHAT ARE THE WORKING CONDITIONS?

This position functions under considerable pressure through changing deadlines, detailed tracking, and constant interruptions. The incumbent must be flexible in completing job duties at a variety of workstations, be flexible in providing coverage for other OS2s within this section who need assistance and be flexible in working within the guidelines provided by more than one direct supervisor.

All employees shall be expected to interact with co-workers, AIC’s and the public in a professional, respectful manner. This includes refraining from any type of behavior, action or language that could be perceived as hostile, discriminatory, intimidating, violent or abusive.

Duties may involve standing or sitting for long periods of time. Carrying and/or pulling heavy loads, bags, packages, and files to and from various workstations may be required.

Office Specialist 2’s is hired to the classification and are subject to being moved to other Office Specialist 2 work assignments within the institution to meet the operational needs of the agency.

WHAT DOES THIS JOB DO?

The purpose of this position is to provide support services for the Correctional Rehabilitation Services section, including Activities, Grievance support, AIC Legal Services support, general/special population programming support, budget, and general clerical duties.

WHAT ARE THE QUALIFICATIONS?

  • Two years of general clerical experience (one year of which included typing, word processing, or other experience generating documents); OR
  • An Associate's degree; OR
  • Graduation from a private school of business with a certificate AND one year of general clerical experience.

SPECIAL QUALIFICAITONS

  • Law Enforcement Data System (LEDS).
  • Public Notary

Successful candidates for this position must pass a Criminal Justice Information Systems (CJIS) fingerprint-based background check and maintain CJIS eligibility. Due to CJIS requirements related to system access, the following convictions are likely to result in being disqualified for this position: Felony Convictions, Computer theft, identify theft and fraud. CJIS Clearance is done at the conditional job offer.
