Responsibilities

  • Serve as the focal point for the geographic area cache operations.
  • Responsible for maintaining the fire stores account and for fulfilling all inventory control and reporting requirements.
  • Recommend organizational adjustments, coordinate supervision, short/long term planning, and direction to Supply Section, Property Section, Warehouse, Transportation Unit, and Small Engine/Automotive Repair Unit.
  • Evaluate, analyze, and develop supply programs, methods, or procedures. Implement changes, improvements, and new policies and procedures.
  • Supervise employees, including evaluating work on a daily, weekly, or monthly basis, and ensure production and accuracy requirements are met. Identify training needs; and give advice on work matters.

Travel Required

Occasional travel - This position requires travel by scheduled or chartered aircraft or ground vehicles to various destinations in the western U.S. for incident assignments lasting up to 14 days.

    Qualifications

    You must possess one (1) full year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 level that is equivalent in difficulty and complexity as indicated by the following examples: Coordinate and manage an established functional area of a Supply Section. Tracking property and generating inventory control reports, reconciling financial accounts and using word processing and spreadsheet software. Set priorities, distribute workload and manage personnel schedules.

    Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

    Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade requirement in accordance with 5 CFR 300.604.     Physical Demands: Work in potentially hazardous work areas. Works extended hours with limited time off and odd hours. Is on call throughout most of the fire season. Fire assignments include aircraft or helicopter transportation, physical endeavor, and living/working at unimproved site in rough terrain.

    Work Environment: Work is performed in an office setting, on an active warehouse floor, or an equipment repair shop. Hazards include noise, dust, toxic fumes, moving machinery and vehicles. Travel in light aircraft and helicopter.
