Summary
This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific individual eligibility requirements in accordance with VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after complete review of the EDRP application. Responsibilities
The New Mexico Veterans Affairs Health Care System's Social Work service is looking for 1 Supervisory Social Worker to provide services to the Inpatient Medical, Surgical and Specialty Programs. The focus of the social worker role in the inpatient setting is to provide care continuity between the acute setting and community based services. The incumbent will provide supervision to the social workers assigned to the inpatient Medical, Surgical and Specialty programs.
Major Duties include, but are not limited to:
- Performs the administrative and personnel management function relative to staff supervised.
- Provides advice and counsel to workers related to work and administrative matters.
- Effects disciplinary measures as appropriate to the authority delegated in this area.
- Exercises supervisor authorities and responsibilities involving work assignment and review, as well as the administrative and personnel management functions relative to the staff supervised.
- Identifies high risk patients along with the interdisciplinary team and other Inpatient or Specialty Program Social Workers and assign them to complete initial discharge planning assessments and discharge planning to these high risk patients.
- Conducts psychosocial assessments. Develops treatment plans in collaboration with the veteran/family and with the interdisciplinary treatment team with specific attention to culture, gender, ethnicity, sexual orientation, stage of life and age related issues. Social worker possesses the skills to offer psychosocial interventions and measures outcomes to interventions.
- Coordinates community-based services, including information and referral for additional services from other VA programs, other government programs and community agency programs.
- Provides substance abuse, depression, suicide prevention and PTSD screening.
- Identifies through case finding and collaboration opportunities for enhanced care provision and minimization of extended acute stays.

Qualifications
Basic Requirements- Citizenship. Citizen of the United States.
- Licensure. Individuals assigned as Supervisory Social Workers must be licensed or certified at the advanced practice level, and must be able to provide supervision for licensure.
- Education. Master's degree in social work (MSW) from a school of social work fully accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE). Graduates of schools of social work that are in candidacy do not meet this requirement until the school of social work is fully accredited. A doctoral degree in social work may not be substituted for master's degree in social work.
- GS-12 Experience/Education: One year of experience equivalent to the GS-11 grade level. Experience must demonstrate possession of advanced practice skills in a specialty area or in administration demonstrating progressively more professional competency and judgment. Candidate may have certification or other post-master's degree training from a nationally recognized professional organization or university that includes a defined curriculum/course of study and internship, or equivalent supervised professional experience.
- In addition to the experience above, candidates must demonstrate all of the following KSAs:
- Ability to independently organize work, set priorities, and meet multiple deadlines.
- Knowledge of supervisory duties which includes clinical supervision, consultation, negotiation with other departments and quality improvement.
- Knowledge in developing and implementing methods for measuring effectiveness of social work practice and services in the specialty area, utilizing outcome evaluations to improve treatment services and to design system changes.
- Ability to ensure provision of clinical social work services.
- Ability to provide staff training and development.
- Skill in interpersonal relationships in dealing with employees, team leaders, and managers.
- Assignments. . For all assignments above the full performance level, the higher-level duties must consist of significant scope, complexity (difficulty), and variety and be performed by the incumbent at least 25% of the time. At the GS-12 grade level, supervisory social workers typically have significant personnel management responsibilities for a small to moderate sized professional and non-professional staff, including support staff and professional staff at the GS-12 grade level and below. The supervisory social worker is responsible for the professional and administrative management of an area in a social work service, in a care/product line, or multiple facilities. They provide direct clinical services with or without program coordination responsibilities.

Physical Requirements: The work requires the Social Worker to be mobile throughout the clinic as needed, involving standing, walking, bending, pushing, and lifting (moderately heavy). The Social Worker should be capable of prolonged standing/walking and be physically capable of pushing equipment, wheelchairs, and patient stretcher.Education
