The 22nd Judicial District Court of Louisiana seeks to hire a Staff Attorney reporting to Division F, Judge Vincent Lobello.

POSITION TITLE:

Staff Attorney

DEPARTMENT:

22nd Judicial District Court; on payroll of St. Tammany Parish Government

REPORTS TO:

Judge Vincent Lobello

FLSA STATUS:

Exempt

COMPENSATION:

$50,000 TO $70,000 starting annual salary depending on qualifications and experience, plus benefits including participation in Louisiana Parochial Employees Retirement System and group health insurance.

LOCATION OF WORK

Division F Offices located within the St. Tammany Justice Center, 701 N. Columbia Street, Covington, LA 70433. Will also be required to work at the Washington Parish Courthouse in Franklinton, as necessary.

HOURS OF WORK:

General hours of work are 8:30a.m. to 4:30p.m., Monday through Friday. Exempt from overtime compensation. Will be required to work whatever hours are necessary to satisfactorily perform the duties and dernands of the position. Thirty-five (35) hours minimum work week.

POSITION PURPOSE:

The purpose of this position is to work directly with a Judge and generally perform legal research and drafting memoranda, reasons for judgment and orders. He/she must be able to conduct conferences with attomeys, pro se parties, and is the Judge’s liaison with other court-related agencies to facilitate efficient workflow. He/she must also be able to work with Specialty Court participants, project directors, case managers and representatives. He/she must be a self-starter and able to work independently.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

General knowledge of substantive and procedural laws of the State of Louisiana

Knowledge of laws, rules, and standards associated with operating a general jurisdiction and family/ juvenile jurisdiction court, including state and federal laws, state and local court rules, Code of Government Ethics, Code of Judicial Conduct, Supreme Court supervisory rules for district courts.

Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing, with a diverse group of people, including attorneys and pro se parties.

Knowledge of applicable computer word processing, spreadsheet, and email applications.

Ability to conduct in-person and video conferences with attorneys, pro se parties and is the Judge’s liaison with other court-related agencies to facilitate efficient workflow.

Ability to work with Specialty Court participants, project directors, and case managers.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS :

1. Graduate of an accredited law school

2. Licensed to practice law and in good standing with the Louisiana State Bar Association

Phvsical Ability: Tasks involve the ability to exert very light physical effort in sedentary to light work, involving some reaching, handling, fingering and/or feeling of objects and materials.

Sensory Requirements: Some tasks require the ability to perceive and to discriminate sounds. Some tasks require visual perception and discrimination. Some tasks require oral communications ability.

Environmental Factors: Tasks are regularly performed without exposure to adverse environmental conditions such as dirt, dust pollen, odors, wetness, humidity, rain, fumes, temperature, and noise extremes, machinery, vibrations, electric currents, traffic hazards, toxic agents, violence, disease, or pathogenic substances.
