Regular Schedule: 39 hours per week

A vacancy exists in Property Management, Office of Budget and Finance.

Non-Merit positions are not classified within the Baltimore County Government Classification and Compensation Plan.

Examples of Duties

Under general supervision, for an assigned region, plans, coordinates, and supervises the work of custodial personnel and/or cleaning contractors responsible for cleaning and maintaining County buildings and premises.


  • For a region, plans, schedules, and supervises the work of County custodial employees performing routine or special cleaning and maintenance.
  • Participates in these activities as needed.
  • Adjusts assignments to fill in for absent personnel to ensure all essential daily functions are fulfilled.
  • Performs routine inspections of County facilities for cleanliness and evaluates the work of cleaning contractors and County custodial personnel.
  • Receives and resolves problems and complaints with staffing, supplies, subordinates, and quality of work.
  • Inspects equipment and checks for proper employee safety attire and practices.
  • Requisitions and delivers supplies and equipment as needed.
  • Instructs or trains subordinate personnel in the proper methods of cleaning and maintaining County facilities.
  • Counsels employees.
  • Under the guidance of the Building Operations Supervisor, conducts performance evaluations and disciplinary actions.
  • Participates in employment interviews.
  • Maintains records of time, materials, production, and attendance.
  • Prepares reports and correspondence.
  • Operates a motor vehicle to transport workers, materials, and equipment between work sites.
EXAMPLES OF OTHER DUTIES
May perform the duties of the Building Operations Supervisor and other Regional Custodial Coordinators in their absence. Performs other related duties as required.

Qualifications

Possession of a high school diploma or an appropriate equivalent
plus
at least four years of experience in janitorial or custodial work, with at least three years of supervisory experience.

Education beyond a high school diploma may be substituted on a year-for-year basis up to a maximum of two years' supervisory experience and/or two years' custodial experience.

Licenses and Certificates
Possession of a valid driver's license equivalent to a noncommercial, class C Maryland driver's license is required at the time of application.

Applicants are required to submit proof of licenses, certifications and education beyond high school to meet the required and preferred qualifications of the position. Diplomas or transcripts must show the applicant's major field of study. Copies and unofficial transcripts are acceptable.

EXAMINATION PROCEDURE
Applicants will be qualified based on an evaluation of their training and experience, as stated on their application, which includes answers to the supplemental questions. Applicants must state the dates and duties of past and present experience clearly and completely for evaluation purposes.

Conditions of Employment

Persons appointed to these positions will work on a fixed shift basis which may include weekends, holidays, and overtime when scheduled. Work hours may be adjusted to meet the needs of the operation. Persons in this classification are considered "essential personnel" and are subject to call to duty in emergencies.

Physical and Environmental Conditions
The work of this classification requires frequent walking, standing, bending, stooping, lifting and carrying of objects of moderate to heavy weight, and the use of equipment. Some duties require exposure to hazardous conditions such as adverse weather, chemicals, and bio-hazards, such as bodily fluids and sewage. Some duties require travel between work sites.

Medical Examination and Employment Background Investigation
Applicants selected for an appointment to a position in Baltimore County must successfully complete a physical examination and drug screen and an employment background investigation, including, but not limited to a criminal background, education, and fingerprint check.
