Located on 14.5 park-like acres, Kahi Mohala's 88-bed facility is Hawaii's only private, freestanding psychiatric hospital. Kahi Mohala provides comprehensive behavioral health services for adults, adolescents and children experiencing problems with psychiatric disorders, anxiety, depression, eating disorders. The buildings and grounds offer a complete residential environment with an emphasis on patient safety and security.
The Program Specialist provides specialized care and direct supervision of patients in our partial hospitalization program (PHP). The activities performed are directed towards the optimal recovery and rehabilitation of the patient(s) and are under the supervision of the Director of Patient Care, Clinical Therapist or designated Lead RN in the milieu and program activity areas. The Program Specialist facilitates life skills and psychosocial education program materials as directed. Responsibilities include transporting patients in the community; ensuring safe transportation in the hospital vehicle and responsible for providing a safe, supportive environment for the patient and communicating any relevant, pertinent information to clinical staff. Performs other duties as required.
Qualifications:
Education:
High school graduate or equivalent is required. Bachelor’s degree in behavioral science or equivalent, preferred.
Experience:
Experience working directly with clients with mental illness and/or behavioral challenges required. Prior work with patients in a therapeutic group or clinical setting preferred.
Knowledge:
Working knowledge of the current Diagnostic Statistical Manual (DSM). Knowledge of growth and development, positive behavioral support, emotional and behavioral problems. When working in the adolescent program, basic familiarity of learning disabilities in youth and with statutes regulating special education services.
Specials Skills/Equipment:
Basic familiarity with the functions of psychiatric facilities/mental health treatment. Familiarity of Outpatient/PHP services preferred. Must have demonstrated ability to function as an effective member of the treatment team while also working independently to facilitate life skills and psychosocial education materials as directed. Must possess strong milieu management skills. Must be able to accurately obtain manual vital signs. Must possess valid driver’s license. Strong verbal and written communications skills required.
