Duties

Summary

This position is located at the VA Medical Center in North Charleston, SC. The person in this position receives and logs receipt and storage of stock. Receives, stores, handles, and issues supplies, materials, and equipment. Routes and expedites movement of parts, supplies, and
materials in production facilities. Performs a full range of warehouse functions which include determining sequences of loading and unloading, develops space utilization plans and implements movement of materials.


Responsibilities

NOTE: This is a TEMPORARY appointment (not-to-exceed 1 year). This appointment may be renewed for additional service in accordance with Agency needs for 1 additional year. Temporary positions offer health insurance (if the employee is expected to work at least 130 hours per month for at least 90 days) but do not offer life insurance or retirement benefits and may be terminated at any time before the expiration date. The appointment to a Temporary position does not confer eligibility for promotion or reassignment to other positions or the ability to be non-competitively converted to permanent employment.

Major duties include, but are not limited to:
  • Operate large material moving equipment, vehicles and forklifts inside the warehouse.
  • Movement of materials in accordance with priorities, scheduling requirements, and space locations.
  • Establishes procedures to prevent damage to product or hazards to employees.
  • Processes receiving reports promptly after receipt to ensure timely payments to vendors.
  • Develops space-management plans and functional coordination schedules of deliveries.
  • Unloads incoming shipments, verifies receipt, and matches shipping documents and receipts.
  • Ensures accuracy of received items to include costing information utilized to invoice customers.
  • Uses automated information systems to access information.
  • Operate mechanized and electromechanical systems: forklifts, tugs, manned storage, retrieval vehicles, Highrise platform lifts.

    Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities.     Physical Requirements/Working Conditions: Often stands on hard surfaces for extended periods of time, and bends, stoops, and works in tiring and sometimes uncomfortable positions. Lifts and carries items that weigh up to 50 pounds. Heavier items are moved with weight-handling equipment or assistance from other workers. Work is done inside or outside in areas that may be hot, damp, cold, drafty, or poorly lighted. Regularly exposed to the possibility of cuts, scrapes, brusies, abrasions, falls and injury from falling stock or mechanized work areas. When working in hazardous materials areas, may be subject to exposure from radiation, explosive hazards, or chemical fumes. Work may require wearing protective clothing such as hardhats, steel-toed shoes, rubber gloves, masks, and rubber aprons.
