New job Historic Resources Specialist I in Mississippi

This is the entry level in the Historic Resources Specialist series. An employee in this class functions in an assigned program area (archaeological, archival cataloging and preservation, reference and patron services, records management, historic preservation, historical education and interpretation, and collections management) providing historic resources education, training, and monitoring the work of volunteers and support staff; and performing related work as required. Incumbents work under the supervision of a director.

Examples of Work: Examples of work performed in this classification may include, but are not limited to, the following:

Documents historic resources using a variety of media (including, but not limited to, photography, audio tape, film, and mapping).

Researches public requests and disseminates to the public, through direct contact or through reports, articles, and other written materials, information of historical significance.

Originates, researches, plans, produces, and presents public and educational programs with accompanying material.

Lectures on subjects of historical, archaeological, architectural, and/or archival interest.

Conducts tours of historic museums and properties and monitors the numbers and behavior of visitors.

Coordinates, recruits, trains, and schedules volunteers.

Conducts historical research to identify and authenticate historical resources and studies and preserves artifacts, objects, manuscripts, and records related to the State's cultural and political history.

Manages, maintains, and preserves collections.

Serves on interpretive services team and acts as an advocate for the mission of the Department.

Performs reference services and technical assistance for the public and for requesting agencies.

Assists in preservation and maintenance of Mississippi historic sites, collections, and resources.

EXPERIENCE/EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

Education:
A Bachelor's Degree from an accredited four-year college or university.

Above graduation from a standard four year high school or equivalent (GED or High School Equivalency Diploma), related education and related experience may be substituted on an equal basis.
