Full Description

The Daily News of Longview, Wash. , is looking for a government reporter to produce news and enterprise stories focused on the ways government intersects with residents' lives: taxes, roads, parks, public safety and more.

This newspaper is the primary source of news for our region in Southwest Washington, and offers great opportunities for motivated journalists to grow and excel. We published our first issue the same year our city was founded 97 years ago, and our reporters continue to tell the stories of the people in cities clustered along the Columbia River and its tributaries with passion, depth and empathy. When Mount St. Helens blew its top 40 years ago, The Daily News was there, and was honored with a Pulitzer Prize and other awards for our coverage. Our local journalists bring unique talents, vantage points and resources to their jobs, and we take our responsibility of serving our readers very seriously, as we head into our second century. We offer our news reports in multiple media every day: in print, online, in social media and an e-newsletter. Our reporters and photographers have won numerous awards for spot news, feature, investigative and explanatory journalism, and we're looking for an ambitious, curious and dedicated journalist to join our team. We require solid news reporting experience, which can include work as a student journalist.

This region has international seaports, a rich cultural history, a strong manufacturing base and a personal connection to the rivers and forests that surround us, define us and sustain us. Our cities are mostly blue-collar towns where many families stay for multiple generations. In many ways our region offers Washington cross-sections of cultures, politics and economies, which offer unlimited sources of stories about conflicting and shared visions and trends, and the people and institutions behind them. In these small cities, we have close connections to our readers, who are a daily source of news tips and ideas.

We're located about 45 minutes north of Portland, Ore. The Pacific Ocean is a one-hour drive to the west, Mount St. Helens and surrounding lakes and mountains are an hour east and the state capital Olympia is one hour northwest at the south end of Puget Sound.

As part of Lee Enterprises (), The Daily News offers a full benefits package, along with a professional and comfortable work environment focused on growth opportunities for employees. We are an equal opportunity employer and a drug-free workplace. All applicants considered for employment must pass a post-offer drug screen, background and DMV check prior to commencing employment.
