About this Position:


This position inspects produce for quality or condition at request of shipper, retailer, clients, etc. Inspects outgoing produce for government, military, export or domestic use; able to apply grades and standards in USDA Handbooks and standards on all fruits and vegetables; documents inspections and report on proper USDA certificates and note sheets; communicates findings to clients and proper authorities; and audits facilities upon request using approved USDA guidelines for GAP and GHP.

This position is required to follow established standard operating procedures and meet quality, quantity and timeliness standards for assigned work.


This positions work station is located in Kent County.

Required Education and Experience

Education
Educational level typically acquired through completion of high school.

Experience

Fruits and Vegetable Inspector 8
One year of experience in the production, processing, handling, inspection, or sale of fruits and/or vegetables or equivalent to a Fruits and Vegetable Inspector 6.

Fruits and Vegetable Inspector 9
Two years of experience equivalent to a Fruits and Vegetable Inspector, including one year equivalent to a Fruits and Vegetable inspector 8.

Fruits and Vegetable Inspector E10
Three years of experience equivalent to a Fruits and Vegetable Inspector, including one year equivalent to a Fruits and Vegetable inspector 9.

Alternate Education and Experience

Possession of a multiple commodity license including fresh and processed produce may be substituted for the experience requirement.

Fruits and Vegetable Inspector E10
Full licensure as a collaborator with multiple commodities may be substituted for the experience requirement.


Additional Requirements and Information

Candidates will be required to qualify for a USDA license for fruits and vegetable inspection before appointment.

Possession of a valid Michigan driver's license.
