Job Title:Development Writer
Department:Wexner Center for Arts | Development and Alumni-JM
The Development Writer will understand the mission, needs and value proposition of the university and the Wexner Center for the Arts to support efforts to increase philanthropic support for the Wex. The position is focused on grants and proposals for foundations and government funders; stewardship pieces and grant reports; and a wide variety of short- and long-form writing to support the development/advancement team and the center at large. The position also entails conducting research, collaborating with colleagues across the Wex, and compiling and presenting data to enhance grants, proposals, and other pieces.
The Development Writer reports to the Associate Director of Foundation & Government Relations, and works as an integral part of the Development team. Expectations include stellar writing skills; attention to detail; proactivity; and an ability to work independently and with colleagues. Some evening or weekend hours may be required to experience programming related to writing projects.

90% - Drafts grant applications and proposals to foundations and government funding entities; develops support materials for grants and proposals; writes grant and stewardship reports; conducts research and/or gathers data as needed; develops program overviews, case statements, impact pieces, and fact sheets to use in donor/funder meetings and for follow-up. Assists with other development/institutional advancement writing projects, including but not limited to: presentations, university campaign collateral, speeches/remarks, letters, solicitations, thank-you’s/acknowledgments, and communications to government stakeholders. Proofreads others’ work; assists as needed with marketing materials that overlap with development; works with writing interns as required.
10% - Assists with other institutional projects and events.
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education/experience
- At least one year of writing and/or editing experience in a professional setting
- Facility/experience with the Microsoft Office software suite
- Experience writing grants and proposals
- Experience with short- and long-form writing
- Experience working in other advancement departments such as donor relations and stewardship, donor communications, marketing, and/or alumni relations
- Demonstrated interest in contemporary arts
