The Child Support Services Division (CSSD) establishes and enforces the financial and medical support obligations of parents in support of their children.

Key Responsibilities Include:

Reviews payment information to construct an accurate debt computation and substantiates any arrears balance.

Initiates legal and administrative notices to enforce compliance of financial and medical support insurance coverage obligations against parents.

Negotiates with case participants and their legal representatives for lump sum settlements and debt resolution.

Interviews obligors, obligees and witnesses to prepare casework and preparation for contested hearings.

Mediates disputes of parties involving facts, laws and regulations.

Prepares and presents evidence in contested hearings.

Submits formal recommendations to the CSED Administrative Law Judge for the establishment and modification of support obligations.

Schedules and conducts pre-hearing settlement conferences with obligors, obligees and their legal representatives.

Proceeds with appropriate paternity action for children under state and federal regulations and statutes for children born out-of-wedlock.

Conducts interviews and investigations in contested and non-contested cases of paternity.

Physical and Environmental Demands:

Typical office environment. Given the sensitivity surrounding issues of child support, CSSD staff regularly must be able to diplomatically interact with abusive, hostile, and, at time, dangerous individuals.


Qualifications:


Required for the first day of work:

  • Knowledge of investigative principles, due process, administrative and judicial process.
  • Knowledge of mediation and dispute resolution principles.
  • Knowledge of general collections principles and social service programs.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to perform basic math calculations.
  • Ability to analyze information, make decisions and solve problems.
  • Ability to organize, plan, and prioritize work.
  • Ability to operate a personal computer and general office equipment as necessary to complete the essential functions, including using spreadsheet, word processing, database, email, internet and other computer programs.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in criminal justice, business administration, accounting, sociology, or related field.
  • Two years child support, general investigative or relevant collections experience.
  • Child support enforcement experience highly preferred.
  • Other combinations of directly related education and experience may be considered on a case-by-case basis.
