Summary

The Program Support Assistant (Credentialing) provides updates to national databases, medical staff privileges, and complete electronic credentialing folders; Compliance with guidelines of the Department of Veterans Affairs, The Joint Commission (TJC), Office of Inspector General, (OIG), Government Accountability Office (GAO) and other reviewers.

Responsibilities

The Program Support Assistant position serves responsible for collecting relevant data and the decision-making process to ensure that qualified health care professionals are providing appropriate care in appropriate settings. Provides for dependent provider verification of documents, licenses, education and other primary source documents. The duties include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Assists C&P Manager or Analyst in drafting local credentialing procedures and audit all required credentials for authenticity and veracity in accordance with TJC standards and VHA policies and procedures.
  • Analysis and documentation of responses, identification of variances, and the resolution of discrepancies and problems.
  • Receives and reviews VetPro reports detecting problem areas requiring further investigation. Upon identification of a problem, researches reference materials, regulations, and standards to identify appropriate action necessary to correct the problem. Issues of a serious nature are elevated to C&P Manager/Analyst for guidance.
  • Ensures primary source verification to include, but not limited to, state licenses, certifications, and required certifications. Primary source verification includes, but may not be limited to, the National Practitioner Data Bank (NPDB), state licensing agencies, specialty certification boards, universities, DoD and healthcare facilities and assist with verification of LIP applications.
  • Analyzes and manages issues related to documents that do not meet expected requirements, regulations or guidelines such as adverse actions against licensures, certifications, and NPDB) CQ reports.
  • Delegated authority to initiate requests for information to the NPDB, and to respond to correspondence for requests for provider credentialing information from external entities in accordance with the System of Records Notice.
Work Schedule: Monday-Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Physical Requirements: The work is mostly sedentary The work area is adequately lighted, heated, and ventilated. The work requires the individual to be able to move comfortably around the office and when necessary other locations. The work is performed in an office setting with occasional travel to outside facilities for meetings, trainings, conferences, and networking.
Promotion Potential: The selectee may be promoted to the full performance level without further competition when all regulatory, qualification, and performance requirements are met. Selection at a lower grade level does not guarantee promotion to the full performance level.

    Qualifications

    To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement.

    GS-07 grade level: One year of specialized experience (equivalent to the GS-06 grade level in the federal service); experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities (KSA's) and other characteristics to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled, in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Specialized Experience required for this position is defined as: Knowledge with assignments involving a wide variety of credentialing problems or situations (must be noted in resume). Communicate with internal and external customers in a courteous, tactful, and respectful manner. Responsible for the audit of all required credentials for authenticity and veracity in accordance with TJC standards and VHA policies and procedures. Manages provider applications (initial) for credentialing within the VAMC. Verification includes, the National Practitioner Data Bank (NPDB), state licensing agencies, specialty certification boards, universities, DoD and healthcare facilities and assist with verification of applications. administrative and/or clinical background, and VA experience, preferred.

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
