MVA Driver License Agent I
(Career Service)
This is an interview and hire position
All candidates will be invited to interview based on the date the application is received. Applications may be on file for 12 months from the date received. Duplicate applications will not be considered.

The Maryland Department of Transportation Motor Vehicle Administration (MDOT MVA) is seeking a dynamic agent with focus on delivering premier customer service. The Driver License Agent I is the entry level of work issuing drivers’ licenses and photo identification cards and administering driver’s license examinations for the Motor Vehicle Administration.

Employees in this classification are required to work over six service delivery days, Monday through Saturday. Employees are scheduled to work to cover MVA service delivery hours that may include evenings.

Responsibilities included:
  • Test applicants on their knowledge of State laws governing the operation of a motor vehicle using standard written or automated testing procedures.
  • Conduct standard driver’s license tests as scheduled at various license issuing offices within a region to determine the fitness of applicants for driver’s licenses.
  • Administers vision screening and knowledge tests in accordance with standard procedures utilizing appropriate testing devices.
  • Records all pertinent information via standard forms and automated systems.
  • Duties is of limited complexity but requires tact and discretion in judging the ability of an applicant to operate a motor vehicle in accordance with specific instructions
  • Decides whether an individual has qualified on the examination.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

Education: Graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.

Experience: One (1) year of customer service work experience.

Customer service must be the primary function of your position in order to receive work experience credit.

Customer Service - Interacting with customers to provide information in response to inquiries about products and services in conjunction with the handling and resolving of complaints.

Licenses & Certifications

1. Employees are required to possess a Class C motor vehicle operator's license, fully endorsed and valid in the State of Maryland.

2. In accordance with Transportation Article, Section 16-105 (b), Annotated Code of Maryland, candidates for employment must be (21) years of age or older at the time of appointment and must be licensed to operate a motor vehicle for at least three years in the State of Maryland or another state.

3. Employees conducting commercial or non-commercial driver's license examinations in this classification are required to possess the appropriate training certification.

4. Employees conducting commercial driver's license examinations in this classification are required to possess a Class A/M commercial driver's license, fully endorsed and valid in the State of Maryland.

5. Employees conducting commercial driver's license examinations in this classification are required to possess a valid physical card. Persons who do not meet the physical requirements outlined in the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations Title 49, CFR 391.41 (b) must possess an Interstate Waiver or Maryland Intrastate Waiver in order to administer road tests.

6. Persons appointed to positions in this class will be required to pass a medical examination administered by the Transportation Service Medical Advisor as a condition of employment and are subject to medical reexamination every two years or may be subject to reexamination sooner if requested by physician order.
