Summary

You will serve as a Mail Assistant in the Navy Official Mail Cost Control Program of NAVSUP FLT LOGISTICS CNTR SAN DIEGO.

Responsibilities

  • You will receive, sort, collect, meter postage, process, deliver, and direct the distribution of incoming and outgoing U.S. Mail
  • You will determine the correct organizational segment to which mail is addressed and distributed into principal classifications by Identification Mail Code numbers, Zip Codes, locations or similar routing instructions.
  • You will certify and operate electronic/automated high volume mail processing equipment, electronic postage metering systems, electronic decision making scales, and other postal and mail center equipment.
  • You will ensure all incoming and outgoing mail is in adherence with all USPS, DOD/DON, regulations, policies, and Standard Operating Procedures for Postal Affairs.
  • You will be responsible for all type of U.S. Mail and other mail items accepted and liable for any loss, damage, and/or failure to handle mail properly.
  • You will examine all mail material for evidence of tampering, damage, compliance with packing and labeling requirements.
  • You will preform all other duties as assigned.

    Qualifications

    Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-05 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: sorting, controlling, delivering, and dispatching incoming and outgoing mail and applying knowledge of postal service laws, regulations, procedures, and processes pertaining to the handling of mail. Examples of specialized experience should relate to the following:

    1) Operating various class (C) vehicles, to collect, pick-up, deliver and dispatch all mail and correspondence;
    2) Operating complex mailing systems to ensure shipments are received by intended recipients;
    3) Adhering to rules, instructions, and regulations pertaining to the handling, shipment, and control of classified material;
    4) Receiving, sorting, collecting, metering postages, processing, delivering, and directing the distribution of incoming and outgoing mail;
    5) Utilizing automated mailing handling and processing equipment.

    The incumbent may be subject to discomfort from dust, vehicle exhaust, and temperature. Some work will be performed outdoors during performance of delivery and pickup services in a government motor vehicle.
