Full Description

This is the senior level managerial classification in the ES-Manager series for the Mississippi Department of Employment Security. Work involves a wide range of managerial assignments related to the planning, coordination and direction of varied aspects of the agency, including services such as labor market analysis, application processing, selection and referral of applicants, employer contacts, taking of job orders, Unemployment Insurance claims processing and investigations, grants management, and other administrative support functions. Supervision is received from an administrative superior.
Examples of Work: Examples of work performed in this classification include, but are not limited to, the following:

Interprets and applies policies, plans, and instructions relating to agency operations to ensure compliance and effective service.

Plans, directs, supervises and coordinates the work of agency staff members engaged in rendering such services as labor market analysis, application processing, selection and referral of applicants, employer contacts, taking of job orders, Unemployment Insurance claims processing and investigations, grants management, and other administrative support functions.

Prepares or directs the preparation of correspondence and required reports and makes prescribed analysis of agency operations.

Directs and maintains a good public relations program and a working relationship with employers and employee groups and other local, private, and governmental organizations.

Trains new staff on various functions following established procedures.

Collects and organizes material and statistical reports and prepares analysis and narrative summaries of labor demand, employment, labor supply and market situations and related subjects.

Monitors survey results and plans accordingly to ensure that required response rates are achieved.

Replies to inquiries relating to labor market information, and works with officials of industrial and community groups and other in regard to programs influenced by labor market conditions.

Assists with or creates publications for public use or internal purposes.

Communicates regularly with appropriate federal entities to ensure that federal program requirements are achieved.

Instructs and supervises subordinates in the compilation of data and the preparation of these statistical reports.

Performs related or similar duties as required or assigned.
Minimum Qualifications: EXPERIENCE/EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

Education:

Bachelor's Degree from an accredited four-year college or university.

AND

Experience:

Five (5) years of experience related to the described duties;

OR

Education:

Completion of sixty (60) semester hours of college coursework;

AND

Experience:

Seven (7) years of experience related to the described duties.

OR

Education:

Graduation from a standard four-year high school or equivalent (GED or High School Equivalency Diploma);

AND

Experience:

Nine (9) years of experience related to the described duties.

Substitution Statement:

Graduation from a standard four-year high school or equivalent (GED or High School Equivalency Diploma), related education, and related experience may be substituted on an equal basis.
