If this sounds like a good fit to you, The Division of Family & Community Services are seeking applicants for a Developmental Specialist to work in Children's Developmental Disabilities Program. The location of the position will be based on the applicant selected. This position could be based out of our Coeur d'Alene (Region 1) field office, Lewiston or Moscow (Region 2) field offices, Nampa (Region 3) field office, Boise (Region 4) field office, Twin Falls (Region 5) field office, Pocatello (Region 6) field office or Idaho Falls (Region 7) field office.

This position will provide case coordination for children in the Developmental Disabilities Program accessing Family Directed Services. Other duties will include assisting with developing family plans by conducting family planning meetings, having the ability to interact with internal and external partners, and knowing and understanding IDAPA surrounding the Family Directed Pathway for Children's Developmental Disability Services. We prefer applicants who have some knowledge of evidence-based treatments.

The Idaho Department of Health & Welfare is a drug-free workplace. In addition, successful candidates will be required to complete a criminal history background investigation. Employment is dependent upon satisfactory results of the investigation.


Example of Duties

  • Process all required plan paperwork and documents for Family Directed Services according to department rules and federal requirements.
  • Provide training for families choosing the Family Directed Service Option for their child's DD budget.
  • Conduct Support Broker trainings and facilitating Support Broker exams for the Family Directed Service Option.
  • Provide additional trainings to Support Brokers on various requested topics relating to their job duties as Support Brokers.
  • Analyze and Interpret assessments to authorize services in compliance with program rules.
  • Communicate with families and Support Brokers through letters, e-mails and by phone regarding the FDS program and children receiving services.

Minimum Qualifications

  • A college degree (Bachelor's or Master's) in special education, psychology, communication disorders, physical therapy, occupational therapy, social work, or other closely related curriculum AND one of the following: specialized training in developmental disabilities OR at least one year of experience working with persons with developmental disabilities OR a combination of specialized training and experience.
  • Experience selecting, administering, and interpreting test instruments designed to assess developmental disabilities in adults and/or children.
  • Experience making oral presentations.
  • Some knowledge of training methods.
