Facilitates payment of the various forms of the GI Bill as the School Certifying Official (SCO) for more than 700 military connected students each semester, working closely with the State and Federal Veterans Affairs and Vocational Rehab Counselors for student veterans using Chapter 31. Review and maintain student records and generate reports for area. Coordinate the development and/or preparation of informational materials relevant to institutional research, students or alumni. Manage the VA Student Worker Program and their assignments. May assist in educational-related activities related to the accreditation process.
Department Specific Essential Job Functions:
Assists and advises students with academic related issues such as the registration process, graduation process, financial aid process, and other University policies and procedures. Reviews and maintains student records such as coordinating input, evaluating transcripts, applications for admission job placement activities, and/or generating reports. May assist in educational related activities related to the accreditation process. Reconcile and troubleshoot actual VA Post 9/11 tuition and fee payments and financial records of students' accounts. Verifies annual VA reporting fee for accuracy. Keeps abreast of Federal Rules and Regulations as they pertain to VA Education Benefits and ensures compliance by UCO. Maintains records IAW Federal and State VA guidelines and prepares for annual audits by both. Hire, train, supervise and process time-sheets for VA student and part-time employees. Ensures work performed is within guidelines of Federal Rules and Regulations. Performs other duties as required to support the mission and function of the area of responsibility. Monitors changes in students' enrollment schedule and notifies university Financial Aid and the VA accordingly. Certifies and processes all the government documents in regards to the VA Educational Benefits programs. Establishes and maintains accurate and up-to-date information in VA student files. Assists students with inquiries and problems concerning their VA educational benefits. Assists and advocates for veteran and military dependent students regarding inquiries and challenges at the University. Provide enrollment certification information to Financial Aid for accounting of Post 9/11 tuition and fee payments to students' accounts.
Requires a bachelor's degree in field plus 3+ years of relevant experience in the chosen field or 7+ years of equivalent work experience that provides knowledge of and exposure to fundamental theories, principles, and concepts. Requires the application of expertise in a chosen field to achieve results.
Knowledge of VAOnce, Banner, and CRM.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office and ability to learn online record system and VA electronic Certification Program. Excellent public relations skills. Ability to rapidly acquire a general knowledge of overall operations and function of the office. Good oral and written communication skills. Demonstrated trust and credibility. Dedication to job. Must be able to work effectively as part of a team. Good time management skills. Ownership of individual performance goals.
