Full Description

Position Summary:
The Collections Processing Assistant prepares physical library materials from all collections for use. This position works in a collaborative environment to ensure library materials are properly labeled and/or housed for use by library users, providing minor repair on items as needed. This position also works with the Collections Assistant to make the print serials and government documents collections accessible to library users through the library catalog. This position also prepares materials that are sent out for commercial binding.
Responsibilities include:
  • labeling of materials, application of mylar covers, and other material processing tasks
  • performing in-house binding
  • preparation of custom housing for special collections materials, including pamphlet binding, archival folders, and archival boxes
  • performing in-house conservation/minor repair of books
  • training and supervision of student workers assisting with collections processing tasks
  • assistance with print serials holdings maintenance by performing print serials check-in tasks
  • preparation of print materials to be sent for commercial binding
  • assistance with government documents processing by performing check-in tasks and reconciling shipping lists; creates item records as needed
  • monitoring and ordering processing supplies
  • performing scanning tasks for acquisitions (invoices, licenses, etc.)
  • may be asked to serve on division and library teams, committees, and task forces


Minimum Qualifications:
High school graduation or equivalent
Minimum of two years work experience beyond high school
Ability to work independently
Experience with Microsoft Office suite
Familiarity with Google applications such as Gmail, Google Drive, Google Docs, and Google sheets
Ability to perform detailed work
Strong organizational skills


Preferred Qualifications:
Prior library work experience in technical services or related areas
Working knowledge of integrated library systems, such as Sierra
Experience with library material processing, book repair or similar work preferred
Experience using an integrated library system, such as Sierra, for serials check-in
Experience processing print government documents
Experience training and/or supervising student employees
Demonstrated flexibility and openness to learning new skills
Demonstrated and successful experience working with people from diverse backgrounds
Knowledge of and sensitivity to Catholic and Marianist educational values
