About The Position
The Maintenance Worker III - CDL performs lead duties and a wide variety of maintenance and event support duties for the safety, cleanliness, and maintenance of the city's equestrian and special events facility at WestWorld.

Functions as a lead and performs a wide variety of duties associated with the maintenance, cleanliness, and safety and special events facilities at WestWorld. This position also provides customer service by interacting with show managers and other users to ensure the needs of their shows are met.

Applicants must be comfortable working around animals. We are open 7 days a week and this position will be required to:
  • Function as a lead and performs a wide variety of duties associated with the maintenance, cleanliness, and safety of equestrian and special events facilities at WestWorld.
  • Work a variety of shifts ranging from 5:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m.
  • Work holidays and weekends.

Please note: The salary range as of January 4, 2021 will be $21.18 - $30.78.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:



Education and Experience
  • A high school diploma or General Education Development (GED) equivalent.
  • Two years of work-related experience.
  • Preferred: Experience in the maintenance of parks, landscaping, athletic fields, transit facilities, and/or cash handling.

Licensing, Certifications, and Other Requirements
  • Must possess and maintain a valid, unrestricted driver's license with no major citations within the past 39 months prior to the start date. The Arizona Department of Motor Vehicles requires that out-of-state driver's licenses must be surrendered within 10 days of relocating to the State of Arizona.
  • Must obtain and maintain a valid, unrestricted Class "B" Commercial Driver's License (CDL) within six months of hire or promotion and will be subject to unannounced alcohol and drug testing as required by law.
  • Must complete a valid Forklift Operator Training Program within one month of hire or promotion.

Other pertinent licenses and/or certifications may be required of some positions depending on division/department/service assignment.

Knowledge of:

  • Methods, tools, materials, and practices used in grounds and landscape maintenance.
  • Proper supervisory techniques to effectively supervise, schedule, monitor, train, and review assigned maintenance staff, document and handle disciplinary issues and concerns.
  • Microsoft Office products and other relevant technologies.
  • Principles and practices of safe motor vehicle and equipment operation and maintenance.
  • Safety procedures, including hazards and precautions.

  • Proper landscape industry standards to plant and prune trees.
  • Cultivating Bermuda grass and perennial rye maintenance.
  • Operate heavy equipment preparing arenas for equestrian events.
  • Business English, grammar, spelling and arithmetic.
  • Provides customer service by interacting with show managers and other users to ensure the needs of their shows are met.
  • Oversees the work of maintenance staff to provides coverage always during events. Ensures proper set-up, tear-down and clean-up are performed, and all facility maintenance and janitorial services are accomplished as scheduled.
  • Operates and maintains a variety of equipment including mowers, front end loader, backhoe, dump truck, tractor, power washer, water truck, forklift, sweeper truck, various hand tools.
  • Works a varied schedule including nights, weekends and holidays.

Ability to:
All Assignments:
  • Perform basic math calculations and make precise measurements.
  • Understand and follow proper safety field techniques.

  • Maintain detailed records of activities, works orders, and inventories.

WestWorld:
  • Must be able to interface and clearly communicate verbally and in writing with staff, clients, and the public.
  • Oversee the work of maintenance staff and always provides coverage during events.
  • Operates and maintains a variety of equipment including mowers, front end loader, backhoe, water truck, dump truck, sweeper truck, tractor, power washer and various hand tools.
  • Plant and prune trees and shrubs according to Arizona Landscape Professional standards.
  • Operate the citywide Baseline Irrigation System. Diagnose and troubleshoot irrigation related problems.
  • Meet regularly with manager to schedule necessary material and equipment needs for upcoming events.
  • Complete work orders, routes, time sheets, and safety checklists in a complete and readable manner.
  • Handle multiple projects simultaneously and use good judgment in prioritizing work assignments.
  • Periodically update material inventory.
  • Opens and secures facilities before and after events.
  • Lift heavy items for set-ups and tear-downs on a routine basis.
  • Keep manager informed of hazards or problems in the field and takes corrective action responds to emergencies and changing priorities recommends improvements.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:


All Assignments:
  • Promotes shared responsibility, teamwork, and continuous improvement by assisting the manager in planning, organizing, observing, and directing a variety of ground maintenance activities.
  • Performs lead duties, trains maintenance staff on relevant equipment and tools.
  • Monitors work to ensure completion and provides daily feedback to maintenance workers.
  • Adheres to yearly calendar in order to properly schedule equipment maintenance. Works closely with manager to establish weekly and quarterly schedules/calendars.
  • Maintains accurate records of work activities; performs monthly audits and maintains work management system reports.
  • Keeps manager informed of hazards or problems in the field and takes corrective action; responds to emergencies and changing priorities; recommends improvements.
  • Operates and maintains a variety of equipment including front end loader, backhoe, dump truck, boom truck, power sprayer, trencher, tractor, turf sweeper.
  • Uses various hand tools such as shovels, rakes, power sprayers, chain saw, and backpack blower.


WORK ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL DEMANDS:


All Assignments:
  • Work in a variety of weather conditions including extreme heat.
  • Bend/stoop repeatedly and lift arms above head.
  • Exercise good physical and hand/eye coordination.
  • Move heavy objects up to 100 pounds and work at heights greater than 10 feet.
  • Operate a hand radio and standard office equipment including a personal computer or adding machine requiring continuous and repetitive arm, hand, and eye movement.
  • Perform maintenance functions maneuvering small objects requiring manual dexterity.
  • Operate a motor vehicle, heavy equipment, and various hand tools.
  • Works a varied schedule including nights, weekends, overtime and holidays.
  • Visual and muscular dexterity to operate equipment, hand tools, computer, two-way radio, a small tractor, and a City truck or EZ-GO cart.

Westworld Maintenance Workers
  • Lift and carry heavy items (up to 50-100 pounds) for distances of approximately 20 feet with assistance from other staff or manual labor repetitively on a routine daily basis.
  • Bend and stoop repeatedly to move items.
  • Visual and muscular dexterity to enter data or information into a terminal, or another keyboard device.
  • Sit, stand or move for extended periods of time.
  • Work in variety of weather conditions including rain and extreme heat.
